Hoping to upgrade from 1080p to 2K gaming.. Suggestions needed !

Hi all, I’m planning to upgrade my 2.5 yr old GPU / PC so as to be able to play the latest (like 007 first light) / upcoming (like gta 6) AAA titles in 2k ultra settings at around 100 fps..

I haven’t filled the usual questionnaire since the answers depend on the suggestions that I’m hoping to get here on whether I can upgrade only the GPU, Monitor & PSU or is a full PC upgrade mandatory..

Budget: Objective is to get the best performing GPU that my existing CPU can support (I hope you agree with me that a VRAM of at least 16GB is recommended) and a supporting 2K Monitor + PSU.. If in the unfortunate scenario where I’m told that the entire PC needs to be upgraded, I will have to come up with a budget..

Existing budget config that was proudly built from advices on this same forum in Jan’24 is as below

Ryzen 5 5600 (stock cooled)
MSI B550M Pro VDH WiFi
16 GB DDR 4 Corsair vengeance
Asus DUAL RADEON RX 6600 8 GB (6 months warranty remains)
Corsair GS 600 PSU
Benq GW 2490T 24 inch IPS Full HD 100 Hz display

Thanks for all the valuable help !

Your PSU is sufficient for 9060XT GPU and your present config. You should get another set of RAM and 1440p monitor.

Follow the above config and you will get good framerates for your games.

Let’s say I can further stretch my budget for the GPU upgrade and a new PSU if needed.. How about considering the 7800 XT or the 7900 GRE or above.. will that make sense by giving me more performance and future proofing or should I spend the extra budget on a more premium monitor?

Also, can you suggest a good aftermarket air cooler for my CPU as I feel the stock fan is too loud and temperatures are always at 85 degrees plus during gaming though I have a spacious Corsair Carbide 500R cabinet.. (I have a cooler master hyper 212 evo cooler sitting around from my old PC but came to know that it’s AM3 bracket can no longer be used on my current AM4 mobo and getting a AM4 bracket accessory for the hyper 212 is not cheap & easy if not impossible)

7800xt or 7900gre are all out of stock if buying new.
I will suggest going with Deepcool AG400 ARGB fan version for 1.8k is good.

So is there any other GPU available (Nvidia & AMD both included) that we can consider above the 9060 XT suitable for my upgrade considering a no CPU bottlenecked 2K performance and future proofing or is this the max GPU for my processor now.. Thanks again for your time..

Okay, so i did some homework on gpu availability (which i should have done earlier!).. Though the 9060 XT is a good suggestion, I’m planning to go with the 9070 since i can slightly stretch my budget and get some future proofing hopefully?

Can you suggest me a good brand/variant with respect to build quality and longevity please.. I’m not sure if paying a hefty sum for the OC’ed editions is really worth it for just a very meagre amount of Mhz of game clock?
