Seeking Motherboard and RAM for 7950X3D Build

Hi everyone,

I recently scored a killer deal on a 7950X3D CPU from Amazon USA, prompting me to upgrade from my 5900X build. I had been considering an upgrade for a while, initially waiting for the Ryzen 9000 series release. Unfortunately, the reviews for those CPUs were disappointing. Just as I was about to postpone my upgrade until the next generation was announced, I found an incredible offer for the 7950X3D at just $430, which even included two free games. Given AMD's commitment to supporting the AM5 platform for a few more years, I thought it made sense to go ahead with this purchase and leave the door open for a future CPU upgrade without needing to replace other components.

As an entrepreneur, computer scientist, and trader, this PC will serve as my primary workstation. My work involves AI/ML, developing applications like multi-threaded crawlers and web automation bots, as well as web browsing, occasional gaming, and video editing. I'm planning to build a white-themed rig, and here’s what my current build looks like:

The problem I am having now is finding a motherboard and RAM to complete my setup. I want a motherboard that is future-proof since I may upgrade the CPU again later, and it should have at least two display ports to support my six-monitor setup—my GPU only has four outputs. I’ve done quite a bit of research and narrowed my options down to the motherboards listed above (although both come with their own set of problems based on reviews I read), as they meet most of my criteria. Regarding RAM, while I could easily get a Kingston Fury 64GB CL30 kit, I’d prefer G.Skill, as I've had great experiences with their products in the past.

However, I've noticed a significant shortage of good (white) X670E motherboards in India. I've checked numerous stores and websites without much luck. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on my build, and if anyone can hook me up with a dealer who has these parts, that would be amazing (I'm based in Delhi btw).

Thank you!

Even budget B650 mobos at 16-18k are future proof as they can handle the relatively power hungry 7950X. Gen5 is practically nothing major, we barely have tasks to utilize 5000MBps Gen4 SSDs to begin with.

I'm not surprised with the shortage of white X670E mobos - these are expensive parts with almost no buyers in a country like India where average income is low. Based on your city, go & talk to local shop, esp if you are in a metro city or Bengaluru.

You can just buy X670E Tomahawk & be done with it. Considered a great mobo in general, has 4x M.2 slots with Gen5 GPU & 1x Gen5 M.2 slot for future proofing.

White RAM is not rare, I see many options:

If you are adamant about Z5 Neo RGB, talk to local shops & see who can arrange it.

So, I went with the Kingston Fury Beast CL30 RAM kit since there’s practically no difference between that and the G.Skill Z5 Neo kit (both use SK Hynix). I avoided the standard Trident Z5 because it's not AMD Expo compatible. I know I could overclock it with XMP, but having those extra AMD profiles is always a plus.

As for the motherboard, I'm still torn. I found a seller for the ASRock X670E Steel Legend, but I’m debating between that and the MSI X670E Gaming Plus WiFi, which is a lot cheaper. I’m skipping the Tomahawk since it’s black and won’t match my build. Then there’s the Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX Ice, which is one of the best-looking white motherboards out there. However, I’m still unsure about its power delivery, especially with a potential future upgrade to a flagship next-gen CPU that could demand much more power than the 7950X3D.

To make things worse, most AM5 motherboards have super mixed reviews—lots of complaints about boot times, stability, and other issues, which is only adding to the confusion.

For MSI, boot time was slow by default for my friend with B650M Gaming WiFi but a BIOS update solved it,

I'll say go for X670E gaming plus & be done with it.

If your budget is 40K+ and may upgrade the CPU in the future, why not wait for X870E which will be available from Sep 30 ? It might cost a lot though.

I don't think X870E is adding anything noticeable over X670E
He's dropping 40K+ and X870E does offers USB 4, Wifi 7, 5Gb/10Gbps Ethernet (Not just for top-end) & some QoL improvements like PCI-e, M2, Wifi Quick release etc. So why not wait for a few weeks and decide ?

So I went ahead and purchased the MSI X670E Gaming Plus WiFi for ₹28,700. It had almost everything I needed (except for one or two small things) at a pretty reasonable price. My last two motherboards were also MSI, so I’m already familiar with the BIOS settings, layout, and software.

I knew the X870E chipset motherboards were launching at the end of this month, but I didn’t feel like waiting for it since it doesn’t offer anything I really need. I use Ethernet for connectivity, directly connected to a 10G Omada switch on my 10G Omada home network, so WiFi 7 wouldn’t add any value. USB4 isn’t a necessity right now either, and I can always add it later via a PCIe card since this motherboard comes with a USB4 card connector.

Most importantly, my main focus is build stability. Even though I could pick up an X870E motherboard in a few weeks, it would take time for thorough reviews to be published, and even longer for any common issues to be addressed through BIOS updates.
