PCI SATA Card

I have an older AMD system MK77M II Motherboard and my IDE hard disk crashed. My motherboard doesn't have any SATA connector. Is it fine to buy a SATA PCI card and connect a SATA hard disk? Will i be able to use this SATA disk as primary boot device?If it is possible then can you suggest any...
