Add more RAM to my laptop

Hello. I want to add more RAM to my Dell laptop. I already have 4 GBs, and I want to add 4 GBs more. The RAM that I have is:

M471B5173DB0-YK0
4GB 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-12-B4

*i.ibb.co/h1CFN0v/Samsung-RAM-4-GB-1600-MHz-Copy.jpg

*i.ibb.co/p4yrm26/CPU-Z-RAM-Pics-Copy.jpg

It is available here on Amazon for ~ 2K:

and:

But the Amazon one says "11-13-B4" while mine is "11-12-B4". So will this RAM be compatible with my computer? If I have one module of Samsung RAM, do I have to install another Samsung module only, or can it be of another company? Also, is it safe to buy RAM from online sites?

I have previously taken out, cleaned and refitted the RAM on my desktop, so will it be the same method for the laptop as well, or should I take it to a computer shop? I have basic experience working with computers.

Thanks.

It should work,as long as ram frequency(1600mhz) & voltage(1.35V,usually these rams are named as DDR3L,DDR4L etc basically 'L' will be there after frequency or ddr,you can see it on label as PC3L in links you posted) is same as existing ram there should be no issues with any ram.

Installing ram in laptops is a bit different as laptop ram slots are different from desktop, better watch youtube videos before trying to install as in worst case scenario you may break the slot notches(the plastic clips at the ends of ram slot).

Amen to that. I attempted to self upgrade my cousin's laptop's RAM. I was not able to find the proper way to insert the RAM in the slot. After many unsuccessful attempts, I found the correct angle and then I was able to insert it. Had I been less careful I might have damaged the RAM (golden part of RAM is prone to scratch). I was lucky.

Thanks for the replies.

Online shopping sites like Amazon and Flipkart have been in the news for selling fake products, and often the reviews sections of the product page also has negative reviews of from people getting fake items. So could you suggest other online shopping sites, preferably ones which sell computer items only, which also have a good reputation?

^^Which model?I only installed ram in some 2-3 old laptops & procedure was the same(45 degree tilt & then slot in).
I installed this ram: *www.amazon.in/gp/product/B002TWXLRG into an age old Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop.

Edit: Didn't know about 45 degree tilt. I was trying to push it after laying the RAM flat at 90 degree angle.

1. As long as two different RAM sticks are of same generation (DDR2, DDR3 etc), it would work together irrespective of different manufacturer, frequency, memory etc. Well, it is advisable to use sticks of same frequency so that one does not bottleneck the other.
For ex. a stick of 1600Mhz will slow down to 1333Mhz if coupled with a 1333Mhz. That is all.

2. "11-13-B4" and "11-12-B4" are certain timings of the RAM (in microseconds AFAIK) with how quickly it reads or erases information. the lower the number the fewer clock cycles it takes so in effect its faster but the faster ram will clock down to match a slower stick. However, you wouldn't even notice any difference as these figures are very minute.

3. Completely safe to buy products from Amazon and Flipkart. However, make sure to buy from a good rated seller and don't forget to check the warranty information on product's page. In Amazon, there are sticks which were imported and so don't have warranty in India, but they always mention it on the product's page.

Go ahead and just search for the cheapest (of good brand if it matters to you) 1600MHz DDR3 4GB RAM, compatible with the type of your laptop's port (not sure if it is any different from 45 degree tilt port) and you should be good.

Quick question, as the sale is going to end by twelve tonight. The RAM I have in my laptop is "M471B5173DB0-YK0".

It is available without Amazon fulfilled at Rs. 1609:

And it is available with Amazon fulfilled at Rs. 2199:

Should I buy the Amazon fulfilled one, or the other one? Also, there are two other RAMs which are not exactly the ones I have, but are Amazon fulfilled, and are priced cheaper, so can I go for any of these two:

*www.amazon.in/Samsung-memory-PC3L-12800-1600MHz-laptops/dp/B00AAVSM18

I bought the 2199 one. Got it and have installed it. As Whitestar had recommended, I watched a video on Youtube on how to do it, and installed it myself. Pretty easy, just took a minute.

I asked on Live Chat on the Samsung site whether I have to register the product on the Samsung site, but the person said there said that the warranty begins from the date of invoice and I don't have to do anything else. The seller on Amazon give a three year warranty, but the RAM case says "Premium Memory - Life Time Warranty."

One thing I didn't understand is that Speccy shows the Week/year of the old RAM as 46/13, while it shows the same for the new RAM as 07/14. Does it mean the RAM I have received is from 2014?

will this be good for my pc same speed(1600mhz) same volt(1.35) and number of pins(204) can I go for this

Have you taken a look at this(crucial is one of the top ram brands)?

Also, there are usually multiple sellers on amazon for same product & the default seller selected by amazon system is not always good even if prime eligible/amazon fulfilled so always check all sellers ratings & reviews before selecting the seller to purchase from.

All laptop ram(technically called SO-DIMM) have same no. of pins(204 pins) & all DDR3L rams have same voltage specification(which is 1.35v). DDR3 ram is meant for desktops while DDR3L ram is usually meant for laptops but it is SO-DIMM which you must look for in specifications/description to confirm that ram is for laptops.

Crucial is better brand than amegon so its your choice which one to buy.
