Finally Nvidia has announced Open source drivers for Linux, possibly due to constant pressure to do so and the recent surge of linux devices (due to steam deck). This would definitely result in better integration of Nvidia GPUs by default in most distros and stop the second class citizen treatment of NVIDIA in linux space. That's in the face of people supporting NVIDIA's decision to not make the drivers open source due to it not being possible owing to legal reasons imo.

Yeah, I read about it. Though a lot of features are missing, they did say they will be releasing it in future driver updates.

Perhaps this will also benefit Nouveau.

From their blog, I quote:
There are plans to work on an upstream approach with the Linux kernel community and partners such as Canonical, Red Hat, and SUSE.

In the meantime, published source code serves as a reference to help improve the Nouveau driver. Nouveau can leverage the same firmware used by the NVIDIA driver, exposing many GPU functionalities, such as clock management and thermal management, bringing new features to the in-tree Nouveau driver.

Wow. Nvidia has really come around. Now only if they abandoned EGLStreams and adopt Mesa as a graphics standard.
