Replace mouse of Logitech Keyboard and Mouse combo MK235

The mouse (M170) is not working. I have another Logitech wireless mouse. Is it possible to make the other mouse map to the receiver of the combo? Or if I buy the mouse (that came with the combo) alone will it work with the combo receiver I have?

Since both are logitech, have you tried just attaching USB receiver in PC and use the wireless mouse?

No.

The ic on reciever is hard-programmed for that mouse only.

So you need to reprogram it, which is not possible over usb due to proprietary protocols used in programming.

For a hypothetical case, You can open the receiver and If the receiver does not have a epoxy on pcb mounted ic, and instead is soldered on it, then you can reprogram it using a special $3000+ universal programmer. But you will also need the flash file for the ic which you will find on russian ftp links.

So it no longer have the advantage of using a single receiver for both keyboard and mouse unless we do like you say?

Sadly yes, it doesn't work like that. I also have combo and then bought separate parts with their own receiver. It starts to take good amount of USB ports after 1-2 years. I decided to go with separate peripherals instead of combo because of high cost and poor quality and flexibility(unable to use new peripheral even though they are from same brand and model).
Also, This could be the time when you have a chance to ditch Logitech and get something better.

Which brand(s) would you recommend for computer accessories? Using USB hubs can solve problem of limited ports especially in laptops right (please suggest good ones)?

You can try other brands under same budget of MK235 like redgear, cosmicbyte, dell, hp. Logitech is just costly for its quality. Or go with Logitech products with minimum 2 yrs warranty and if you are comfortable running to service centers.
USB hub is also fine if you are fine carrying around it. I am not sure about which brand has good quality, would recommend to check some amazon reviews and decide.
