I am exclusively looking at APUs. What is the expected improvement if I switch my existing 2200G with 4650G? Is paying more than double worth it?

Right now it is probably about gaming. I wanted Full HD gaming at low settings without buying a discrete GPU.

Is your board compatible with 4000 apu? Check that.
1080p @ low, that depends on titles. But don't think there would be huge difference between 3400G and 4650G wrt iGPU performance.
For someone upgrading and intending to play with iGPU, spending 17k is for an APU is not worth it. 10100F+1650 would cost about the same and gives better performance. This is just to give you an idea about what that 17k could do if spent right, not suggesting you to dump 2200G and upgrade to i3.

If you have patience, 6000 series APUs will get rid of the caching bottleneck in Zen 2 and lower generations.

My board probably may not be compatible.

yes i used stock cooler
To keep the pricing lower the distributor would have used ordinary wraith cooler. Try to get your hand on the wraith rgb cooler with copper bottom from amd or use an aftermarket cooler.
