Looking for online community of Indian DIYers.

While redddit's r/DIY has 18 million members, r/diyindia has less than 60. Are there any online communities of Indian DIYers/makers?

While most of the knowledge is universal and can be gained from any worldwide forum, you need a group of local people to find local suppliers, deals, set up real world meetings etc. and I haven't found any.

There u go, found u 1.1k members

Thanks, but that's not a lot of people.

How is it that there is no DIY forum in a nation of 1.3 billion people? Assuming that only 20% are middle class and above, that 's still more than half of US' pop. I've seen some Youtube channels from Indian makers, shame their viewers aren't consolidated in one place. Guess I'll have to try it.

Well, the problem is Indian people are not too involved in their own communities, like geek.digit.in has certainly less gross Indian members than reddit, and how people regularly link reddit posts even in here.

I think in general Indians don't have much time or luxury to explore things outside of traditional boundaries. That is why such communities are more of a fringe here.

And those who do have that luxury see the shallow communities and just flock to well established worldwide one, which I ain't saying is bad. Anyway, time is not a factor at all (imo) as Indians on spend hours on Facebook, or offline chatting.

And thanks to Facebook and other social media, it's unlikely for people to take interest. I stand by my statement though, for people to take interest in things like DIYing stuff, you have to generate interest first.

Extra curricular activities in school such as simple workshop activities can help generate such interest that can carry on into adulthood. But most schools are focused more on studies and extra curricular is mostly sports.

Edit: My point is that people don't know what they like until you make them do it. It might stick for some people and then might help grow the communities around such activities.

If you look up Indian DIY, Most of them is fake, and consist of fake tutorials, for views.

How can one person generate electricity by injecting needle into a candle?

Yeah, I think we all agree that Indian educational system is horrendous on every degree.

Oho, boy, don't let CBSE hear it, they already make students study ever single subject till 10th using that logic.

5 minute crafts and its subsidiaries come to mind.
Wow. Who did that? Does that even qualify as DIY project?

Some of them put so much effort into faking their inventions they could actually make something decent if they had a moral compass. Watch this:
