Gaming PC 1.1L

Helping my friend build his gaming PC, sadly not my turn yet :( .

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Gaming & maybe some streaming. He mostly plays competitive shooters like Rainbow 6 & Call of Duty, he wants no fps drops below 144fps.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 1.1 lakhs, already at its max (initially it was 100k)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No, he won't

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win10

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB+

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No, he already has Lenovo Y25f, a 1080p 144Hz TN monitor

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, KB & mouse

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: When lockdown is lifted

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Likely getting it assembled

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Bengaluru

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Got a quote from a seller in Delhi who said he will ship built PC to address in BLR. How is this done? Is it safe? Anything that he needs to be wary of?

Total - ₹ 1,12,690

I asked him to replace mobo to AsRock Phantom X570 Gaming4, seller said it should cost similar but wouldn't provide an exact number as lockdown came into effect. Also asked for a quote on Kingston A2000 & Crucial MX500 2.5" to replace that expensive A400.

Not sure how the seller is providing a Win10 Pro retail key for free, I'm expecting it to be an OEM one. Do sellers do that if you buy the whole PC from them?

So anything else that needs modification or something he should look for?

Will SP Road have a better deal? Any ideas?

I added same parts to cart on mdcomputers and total came to about 125k. Not sure how this seller is charging 12k less. Also MB511 has a tempered glass side panel which will break in shipping (knowing how things get handled in general). Better option would be to just buy parts locally instead of getting them shipped.

Where is the quote from BTW?

It's some seller which is a known person of my friend's friend, don't know about the exact shop. The seller is situated in Delhi.

Other than RAM, I would say other prices are surely excellent, esp GPU. 40k for 2070S is great.

I will ask my friend to ask more about shipping & packaging from the seller.

I will ask him to get the prices of those as well. Isn't SN550 DRAM-less? That's why I recommended A2000, but that's surely expensive by about 1k.

Thing is, he is going for a built one, rather than getting parts individually & building it locally. I'll ask if he's up for cloning, shouldn't be a big task for a new PC where you can just clone & reset the OS.

Yes but it is the best dram-less ssd till now. Its 1 TB version actually matches & even surpasses kingston A2000 in some tests.

Consider getting a 1TB SSD and remove the HDD. It's obsolete and just more wires. Team Group GX2/L5 Lite 1 TB is 8k.

Try to get Corsair RMx or HX Gold

I'd also be vary of Zotac mini cards. Heard they run HOT. Checkout 2070S founders edition from nvidia at 43.6k iirc

Not suggesting a cheap SSD because he will likely not change OS drive later, so trying to push a good 500GB NVMe. I'm expecting a lot of games will start recommending NVME in 2-3 years once games start utilizing the hardware of next-gen consoles. I know I'm speculating about the impact of SSD on games, but we don't know how much it will be as current games are optimized for HDD. He can easily add more SATA SSD or another NVMe later without the need for cloning or stuff.

His budget is already stretched. Also, I feel TX650M is more than enough, he won't OC & 3700X doesn't OC much. GPU can be OC'd a bit, but I won't recommend him that on a Mini.

I checked some comments on reddit & those who owned it are happy with its thermals & acoustics. This is a review for 2070 Mini, but looks similar to 2070S Mini:
Zotac Gaming RTX 2070 OC Mini 8GB Review - KitGuru
Even if its a bit louder than usual, whole PC shouldn't be as loud as a gaming laptop on full fans. He plays with a headphone, so he won't care till he is getting the advertised performance.

Zotac 2070S Mini is the cheapest 2070S we could find, I mean 40k is a great deal. RTX 2060S isn't worth buying, nor is 5700XT in India (lack of ray-tracing is its another downside). I have a feeling he will likely push the SSD purchase & get a 120/240GB SSD now for OS/OS+R6.

it is a budget build tho? NVMe prices seem to have risen. And games would never ever recommend to have NVMe. Games don't benefit from disk R/W speeds. There isn't any practical difference between NVMe and SATA SSDs (hardly a 1 sec faster boot time)

But yeah if you wanna avoid the SATA cables you can get a 500 GiB NVMe and later add in another. 500 GB is too small though. Barely enough for 2 maybe 3 games.

Corsair RMx is a top quality PSU (Japanese capacitors, surge protection, multi rail) with 10 year warranty. Get RM650x. It's also available in white color and braided cables if you're one for aesthetics

I mean sure you could get the Zotac, but have you seen the Founders edition? I have it. It sexy with all aluminum build

1 lakh isn't a budget build in my books. I initially recommended him an R5 3600 + RTX 2060 as that is enough for 1080p, but then he wanted a better GPU, one thing lead to another & here we are.

Check specs of next-gen gaming consoles. Unless you don't know, consoles dictate PC specs. GTX 660/750Ti are similar in performance to PS4 & XB1, that's why it has been min required GPU for years now. It should bump up to GTX 1060 as the new minimum by next year when PS4 & XB One retires. So next-gen games might actually recommend an SSD (not min req as PS4 Pro & XB1X might be supported for 2-3 years more), surely not PS5 level but maybe XB Series X level, currently even that is overkill for gaming but remember that games are optimized for HDDs now, not SSDs. Also new techs are coming which will better utilize SSDs. I'm just guessing. Since my friend usually plays just 2 games at a time, like its R6 & CoD MW these days with occasional big AAA SP games, so a 500GB SSD is enough for him IMO.

Read this: Everything you need to know about Xbox Series X game storage

I know Corsair RM650x is better but seems overkill as he won't OC & 3700X doesn't OC much. The additional 1.5k on that is kind of hard to justify when we are already struggling a bit with SSD budget. As I said, he might end up with 120/240GB cheap SSD for now & new SSDs after a year or so.

My friend isn't too much into RGB, he loves black, so the 2x RGB fans will be the only decoration of sorts (he won't mind not having those). Helped another friend of mine to build an i9 + 2080Ti rig, he was into RGB, so suggested him RGB case, RGB fans, RGB RAM, RGB GPU & obviously KB mouse.

If there's a partial lift on lockdown of sorts, he will be able to get prices for parts from the Delhi seller. It is safe to assume next gen CPUs & GPUs are getting delayed (not Interested in Intel 10th gen for now).

What I meant was that we have to be in a budget of 1.1L

Btw, is gaming the main purpose of the PC? If so you. Could probably go with a Ryzen 5 + 2080S for more frame rates. And could probably upgrade to a Ryzen 7 4700 if you feel liek it

In retrospect, RMx is only 1.5k more and is top quality, fully modular etc.

Yes, only gaming is the main purpose. The jump between 2070S to 2080S is small compared to the price difference, like 15% performance jump for like 25k extra.

Since next-gen consoles have an underclocked R7 3700X of sorts, 3700X should last pretty long, at least 5-6 years without feeling like a big bottleneck. Its just 12k extra over 3600, so can't cover cost for 2080S. I think better to hold to 2070S now & get a 30-40k GPU after 3-4 years, that will likely outperform even 2080Ti while pairing nicely with existing 3700X. R5 3600 is surely great now, but will likely start bottlenecking in CPU intensive games after 3 years or so when most games ask for 3700X like performance as the minimum due to console hardware.

Neo

.
2080S can be fitted into the budget if you want max performance. 3700 offers nothing over 3600 if it's meant for gaming only. idk where youre getting that Ryzen 7 3700 would be needed for gaming though, i cant imagine games utilising 16 threads to make do, unless its games like Civilisation. 3600 is more than sufficient with 12 threads.

@bssunilreddy remove that snapdeal link as that key is no different from ebay ones which also are not exactly official microsoft approved keys for such selling even if they do work. You can use PM for such things in case someone is interested.
