Hi,

to all.

Actually, my friend bought a Laptop in the Year 2011 from HP, that costs Rs.50000 on that time, he got 2 years warranty on that, somehow he has been extending the warranty from that time to till date by buying Care Packs, he has all the Care pack Certificates of all these years, last year in the month of June, 2017 he got some issue in the Laptop the engineer visited and told him that there are two parts needs to be replaced, when Service Center requested the Needy parts, HP told that EOSL (End of Support Life) of the product has already reached that's why no spare parts are available when he asked if the EOSL has reached then why the HP extended the Warranty again in the same Month of June, 2017 then the HP had no answer then for some time my friend moved to some remote place for some work now from last one month HP is trying to return back the Care pack amount of two years to my friend and asked him to accept this amount and leave this matter, but my friend strictly told to HP that either provide proper services to him because Laptop is completely shut from last six months otherwise provide some genuine resolution as the six months warranty is still left, now today HP again called him and told him that they can provide 50% refund on the invoice of the Laptop as well as two years amount of the care pack, my friend has till now spend Rs.80000 (Rs.50000 + Rs.30000(Extending the Warranty) on the laptop although he has used laptop, now please tell what should he do now? Please advice.

Thank You.

Can you tell me whats the final amount ? If its 25,000 + 30,000, then its a great deal.

so they are offering 25000 + 2 x 5000 care pack per year for 2 years = Rs 35,000 in cash .. ?

what specs does the 2011 laptop has ? model no ?

personally i would take the cash and buy a decent laptop for 35-40k ( if you still need the laptop )..

with new laptop i will be able to get directly 3 more years of warranty under some new year additional warranty offer and better specs

The specifications of the laptop bought in 2011 are very old now and even for 35k you are likely to get at least similar s if not better specs now than that 2011 laptop ( dollar rate was good back then )

not to mention avoiding unnecessary hassle and having peace of mind

The Laptop has 15.6" Touch Screen with Core i5 (First Gen), 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 1 GB GRAPHICS CARD.
Also, HP told that my friend can keep the Old Laptop with him, although its not working it needs to be repaired that costs Rs.20000.

Thank You.

He got 2 years standard warranty + he bought "extended warranty" till June 2018 (I guess) for 30k. That makes it 6k/year for extended warranty (June 2013 - June 2018). Your friend should be getting at least 12k for two years care pack. Ask him to start negotiation at 55k (all "care" packs + 50% laptop price).

PS: I don't know what kind of repairs are needed that are costing 40% of the laptop's price.

Thank you for this reply, Actually, the last two years care pack priced Rs.5000 per year that's Rs.10000 for last two years Care Pack plus 50% on the Old Invoice so its Rs.25000 + Rs.10000 that is Rs.35000, I'll tell my friend to start negotiating at Rs.55000 and about repair of the Laptop its LCD, its heatsink, its DVD Writer needs to be replaced it can be possible that engineer told the hefty price for the repairing.Anyways, this time the question is what to do with HP.

If he's willing for DIY, LCD costs 3-4k (another ~300 for cables/connectors), 1-2k for heatsink assembly and don't replace the obsolete DVD drive.

Post the exact model no. of the Laptop along with other details, ill help you locate a suitable screen for it.
laptopscreens.com is a good place, my friend has successfully replaced a Acer screen from there.
However there is a considerable shipping charge.
IMO, your friend did a bad decision by extending warranty like that. Warranty in laptops is overrated, if you consider the amount he just paid, he could have gotten a better laptop with that money.
take the deal, and like goku said, negotiate for a higher refund.
We can work out a repair scenario ourselves.

Your friend won't get a higher refund because HP is already being pretty generous in giving you 50% of the invoice value of laptop. The rate of depreciation is usually 33%(aka 3 years of useful life after which its current value is 0 for accounting purposes) for PC/laptops in Indian Companies act & that is pretty much a legal standard too.

Bhai tell your friend to get the refund asap. I wonder how a company like Harassment-Packard is offering the same.

Hi,

to all.

Today, my friend got a call from HP, and HP Executive told to my friend that they can give Rs.25000 (50% of the Invoice Value) + Rs.10000 (Last Two Years Care Pack Amount), total Rs.35000 and this is a final offer from their side, they can't increase this amount stating the reason that they are not demanding the Unit back, so Respected Members, what should to do now? Please reply.
Thank You.
