1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
~$1200 (excluding ~$70-$90 in taxes)

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
+1 if its a 14" screen can do with a 15" too but not certainly bigger than that.
Looking for a matte / retina / anti glare / non glossy

3) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Gaming, programming, spinning off some virtual machines and doing *some pretty heavy* usage (eg. am into distributed computing as a part of my profession so  <3 rolling out local cluster mockups), dual booting into my fav. tux etc.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
Most imp. part of this questionnaire

I've set my eyes on:
- MSI GT60 - 2OC (- 022US ?) with a nvidia 770m (non-sli) but plenty of I/O ports for RAM, gfx card is an MXM too but there is not a capability of extending gfx volume as in an SLI config. :-(

- Lenovo Y510P (the one with nvidia 755m SLI (2x 755m 's))

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like: N/A
b. Dislike: N/A

6) Anything else you would like to say?
Screen resolution ( a min. of 900p / 1080p (Full HD) )
Battery back up ( avg ~ 3-4 hrs )
Purchase place ( Abroad (US) )

So, am in a dilemma in b/w the above ^ mentioned laptops.
Should I go for SLI vs non-sli ? (also I need confirmation on the following too :| )

> a single 770m performs a bit more/faster than the two 755m's

> the y510p has bad air vent design bottom of the laptop is nearly having no vents :/ MSI on this side looks cool; plenty of vents dedicated key for speeding up the cooling fan

> noise factor in the msi one though an SLI config in lenovo is sure to beat the drums too

> msi one can go up to 32gigs of RAM ; lenovo can go upto 16

> hinges look strong on lenovo; doubtful abt msi though looks solid in reviews on youtube

Update:
> just now read about Lenovo Y50 :|

would it be justified to wait for it? I can wait for about a week or two.
Also, how much would it cost? on an avg. ?

In need of real help of you guys:oops:

In need of real help of you guys:oops:

The y510P is the best overall but another interesting laptop is the 2013 XPS 15 only for the fact that it has an awesome config but the real deal breaker is that its the best laptop display till date with a resolution of 3200x1800 so the only thing is choosing between the SLI and the QHD+ , my friend bought the XPS last week he says its an absolute monster for gaming and can support his 4K bravia as well along with the QHD+ screen so it is a very capable beast IMO
The y510P may max out at 16gb but u won't need beyond that at the moment and even if u get the msi and upgrade to 32gb ram in the future the rest of the laptop will bottleneck it
IMO get the y510P or the XPS 15 depending on what u like better
Ohh and btw the XPS 15 is more portable compared to Y510P but the y510p is a bit better on performance but both are roughly the same

hmm..I would stay far off from Dell as I already own a Inspiron 15R (and ...pretty much aware of how dell services its customers:-?) for the past 3-4 years.

AFA y510p is concerned the Indian edition is way behind in terms of config vs price ratio if compared to its US edition.
Looking at y510p's US edition ...but at a bit higher price I am getting expandability :s

really wondering about Lenovo Y50 now :s

Indian version of y510p is way too backwards in terms of price vs config. ratio. I am staying off from Dell as I have one as my first laptop :/ an inspiron 14r with a 5650m 1GB, 6GB ram, i5 (1st gen) 2.4ghz

Now, am wondering about Lenovo Y50 :s

Get the MSI one. GTX 770m is very powerful. GT 755m SLI is equivalent to GTX 770m. It also has the advantage of MXM slot and you can easily upgrade to GTX 880m later.
Why do you want SLI over a single card of equivalent performance? SLI has still many problems concerning scaling etc. Even though 99% percent of the problems can be solved but a single card equals no hassles. Also Y510p SLI overheats......a lot.

If primary concern is gaming no need to even look at XPS 15. Those are ultrabooks and not meant for gaming. The only Dell laptops worth buying for gaming are Alienwares.

Consider a Sager too. Those things are VFM

XOTIC PC | Sager NP8268 (Clevo P150SM-A) - 15.6" Gaming Notebook

You can upgrade upto a GTX 880 (or GTX 870 for 1299$). GTX 870 is a lot more powerful than GTX 770m or GTX 755m sli. GTX 860m is equivalent to GTX 770m and GTX 755m sli.

A FHD screen will suffice for gaming and other multi-tasking. 4k screens are over-rated as it will massively decrease performance. Lower the resolution and things will look bad as you are not in the native resolution.

8 gb ram is sufficient for now and 16 GB is overkill. 32 GB-wastage of money.

If you're running VMs then I suggest you go for the Sager with some powerful config. 4700MQ(possibly 4800MQ)+16 GB RAM+GTX 860m(possibly GTX 870m).

awesome!

Now only thing that bugs me is warranty; hopefully MSI would abide by theirs; dunno abt sager.
Also, what are your thoughts abt lenovo y50? :)

Y50 won't be much of a gaming laptop.
You won't get either MSI or Sager warranty in India.
If warranty is an issue go for Lenovo Y510p with dual GT 755m.

erm..we'll have to confirm it guys but MSI laptops does include 1 yr of international warranty on labor/parts.

2 yr accidental warranty + 1 yr standard international warranty

MSI does provide international warranty but not in India. If you go into International warranty page then it will detail in which countries warranty can be availed. There are many countries in Asia in which this can be done. I suggest you do some research into the subject and post here. I may be wrong.
