A problem about my N79

Hello friends. Recently, I purchased an N79. It is really a nice phone fulfilling all my requirements.

But unfortunately, some days ago I met with a serious road accident in which I hurt myself to some extent. In the accident, my handset's display underwent a crack which really ripped my heart. Since accident cases are considered by Nokia, I could not utilize the advantage of the warranty. So I spent some extra bucks & got it replaced from the Nokia Care Center. This made the warranty to expire.

N79 has a feature of flipping the display (a.k.a. the motion sensor) which worked fine before. Even after the accident, it worked for sometime, but it has suddenly stopped working. When I asked in the same Care Center, they say that the accident might've damaged the sensor. But the sensor works fine when I reset the handset & even when I activate the camera. On activating the camera, the screen flips, & returns to normal when the camera is deactivated. If I flip it later in the normal mode (not in camera mode), it does not work. After resetting the device, I mean, when I restore the factory settings. it works for 2-3 days then again stops working. What might be the problem?

If there is anything that can be done, please help me out.

Right off the assembly line
if the hardware is faulty,it can be fixed by a mobile technician.I too encountered the same problem 1 week back.

Ok. Do a hard reset and then try upgrading ur firmware to ver 31. See if this can help.

What do u mean by 'hard reset'? & how can I upgrade the firmware to the specified version? Is there any procedure? Please let me know.

Hard reset is factory restore .. dont know the code for n79 .. google it and then use nokia software updater to update ur firmware to latest ver 31 and see if this solves ur prob or not. If the prob still persists then visit nokia care and let them know..might me a small issue with sensor..

^ there is no code for hard reset ... u need to turn off the phone and press and hold a few keys ( find out which ones for n79) and keep holding them till the country selection appears ... if that doesnt solve ur problem .... looks like u have a faulty sensor

The accelerometer sensor of your phone is broken.

Camera, Video player etc are supposed to be run in Landscape mode so whether u have accelerometer free or not, they will play in that mode.

judging by what U said, the accelerometer is broken, so get it replaced. Firmware reset won't help

yogi7272, I really hope that it is a small issue. But I feel, updating the firmware will not cause any harm to the handset. Thanks a lot. :)

I have checked for both hard & soft resetting. As yogi7272 has rightly said, Hard reset is just factory restore. But Soft reset is "formatting" the device. I have checked for both the options but the motion sensor doesn't respond. I think the sensor is indeed faulty & has to be replaced.

But, anyway, thanks a lot to both of u, k4ce & gxsaurav. Ur advices were really of great help. :)
