Well didn't find any topic covered here on this subject... or is there?

Anyways I was doing the analysis of my system using "Tune up utilities 2007" and it said my PC was capable of using Win XP 64 bit... bla bla... it will be fast, reliable... bla bla

So is it ?

Is it worth switching from 32 Bit to 64 bit ?

Will my old softwares run? Do i need to buy software made specifically for 64 bit?

Thanks... mike here

Not much difference unless you are into encoding oodles of stuff. (or playing Latest games)

32bit Apps surely work! But support for 16Bit DOS/Win3.11 Apps have been removed. (Well, 32bit apps are 'emulated' on 64bit XP, similarly like 16bit on 32bit WinXP)

You can just try it. All known softwares should work.

go for x64 if you have a 64bit cpu and you can see the difference. it can crunch 32 bit apps like a munch :D

give it a try if you have a 64bit processor and good 1gb or more RAM.

Give it a "try"? That will cost $$$ won't it. Unless there's a trial version

^^

No Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP x64 simply wont install if there is no CD Key provided, how ever Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 can be installed for 30 days without any CD Key :)

Do you really need Windows x64 platform ??

Me using Windows XP 64Bit on Asus A8N Sli Delux Board, AMD Athlon 3000+ with 4GB Ram....while in Windows XP32bit I was only support 3GB Memory even though I had 4GB ram installed. Now WIndows 64Bit work smoother than 32bit, much faster and get good color depth on my Sony Monitor.......trust me XP64bit work smoother than 32bit...........only some small software dont support 64Bit........otherwise excellent OS.

windows x64 was built on windows 2003 kernel..so its certain that to provide better performance

btw what do you meant by small software?
small in size???

small means a low base (minority) of software dont work. Most softwares work fine.
And 64 bit is definitely faster than 32 bit windows.
