Today while going through the tech2.com website, i found this link:-

Here it is mentioned that Idea Cellular has 2.75G EDGE networks. I am not able to understand whats this ? I mean, does airtel also have 2.75G ?

Does it mean that i will get better internet speeds on my Nokia 6630 (which is EDGE enabled) if i am on Idea Network than on an Airtel Network ?

IIRC EDGE is only available on 2.75G networks while 2.5G has only GPRS. So what we all are using right now is 2.75G network and Idea is not offering something special.

Thanks krazy for the info

OFF TOPIC:
There are also one updated EDGE, name is something like dual speed EDGE , Nokia and Siemens jointly invented it, its just a software update. This update is very less expensive, but i dont know if any telcos stared it in India:-(

As EDGE is an inch above GPRS (2.5) and it isn't even UMTS or 3G, it is classified as 2.75G. And the equipment upgrade for the Operator for getting EDGE isn't heavy over the existing GSM equipment.

Its like the same way that HSDPA is called 3.5G....Equipment upgrade over UMTS for HSDPA isn't much heavy.....
