hello frnds!

I am planning on upgrading my comp....just as everybody else is!;)

After lot of research i hv zeroed in on following hardware...

  • INTEL C2D E6300 processor.
  • ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard
  • Corsair 1GB RAM (2x512MB)
  • 320GB SATAII HDD
  • Viewsonic 19" WideScreen LCD Monitor
Some how i m not able to fit in a good graphics card in my budget of 25K...i m not so much into gaming..as i hv very specific taste for games bt still i wud want a decent grfx card. W/O grfx card wil i b able to play gud games?

Also is there a better motherboard? Is it necessary to have an intel mdrbrd for an intel processor?

i m new here...so plz dnt mind my mistakes!:)
Waiting 4 ur replies...
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!!!
the mobo u hav chosen doesnt hav onboard gfx,so if u hav a tight budget then go in 4 a cheap gfx card for 3k.
Asus P5N-E SLi is good mobo.u can buy that.but the above config will exceed ur budget of 25k
C2D E6300 = 8.2k
Asus P5N-E SLi = 7.8k
Corsair 1GB DDRII = 4.8-5k
320GB SATAII = 3.85k
Viewsonic 19"TFT = 14.5-15k
the total comes to bout 40k!!!!

yea.. Thers no way u ll get it in 25k.. Try getting a crt instead of a lcd.. Nd if u arent much into gaming then get a intel dg965wh mobo.. It has decent onboard gfx... This shd make it reach 30k..

oh! i m sorry!!! actually my budget is around 35k...as i wud get 10k for my old pc..i was thinkin of 25k while posting...

i believe Viewsonic 19" VX1935WM is less than 13k? i dont want to buy a crt monitor..it has to be LCD..

is it necessary to hv a grfx card if d mobo doesnt hv on-board grfx card...? i was also considering Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3P rev3.3...about intel mobos i feel they are less on features and more on price...so was thinking of other mobos..

if TFT is wat u want go in for a 17"TFT.these sud come for 10.5k.
dood if a mobo doesnt hav onboard gfx and if u dont install a gfx card how will get any display on the monitor.:)

Assasin is very tru wid some corrections like in B'lore u'll get a 17" TFT for 9.5 that can save u decent money man .. and potentially the diff isn't HUGE in terms of inches

i believe if u hav enuf space u shd get a CRT only... that shd save u 4k...
btw AFAIK DG965WH and GA 965 DS3 has the same onboard gfx so it shdnt matter if u get any unless u want to add a gfx card later.... also GA is costlier..

Here's the new config...
  • Intel C2D E6300 = 8.2k
  • Asus P5N-E SLI = 7.8k
  • Corsair 1GB DDRII = 5k
  • 320GB SATA II = 3.85k
  • Samsung 17" 740N = 9.9k (8ms response time...gud enuf 4 games?)
  • XFX 7300GT(4.5k) or 7600GS(5.8k) or XFX 7600GT(9.1k - bit too much!) cant decide which 1 to go for..?
that's abt 35k excluding d grfx card...plz suggest a grfx card...also wil these grfx card have DVI connectors for TFT's?

all new gfx cards hav dvi output.i'll suggest u go for Samsung 740B instaed of 740N cuz 740B has both DVI and D-Sub.
response time of 8ms is pretty good.i've a LG L1753S 17"TFT.it has 8ms response time.never noticed any ghosting during gaming or during watching tv/movies.
if u wanna upgrade to DX10 cards once they r available for roughly 10,then buy 7300le(bout 3k).but if u plan to use this card for a year or two, then buy 7600GT.

hmm...740B looks good..but the only thing i was worryn abt was response time and dats fine. what abt widescreen? are they worth d xtra money?

hvnt heard abt DX10 cards..r they really worth waiting for? 7600GT is inflating my budget a bit too much...7300le is cheap bt wil i b able to play atleast moderate level games? which 1 amongst 7300GT and 7600GS? coz..i think i wil b using d card for atleast an year...wht's d use of upgrading so much if i wil hv to repeat d process within next 18 months!!

yeah DX10 cards r really worth waiting 4 if ur planning to run Windows Vista.
between 7300GT & 7600GS,7600GS will be a better buy.
widescreen TFTs r worth the xtra money, but the negative point is that if ur gfx card doesnt hav enough juice to run games at 1440x900 resolution (native resolution of most 19" widescreen TFTs) then gaming gfx will suck.

hello frnds! i m back with some new thoughts and ideas!

for past few days i hv been researching 4 a gud grfx card..and ofcrse got many suggestions to wait 4 DX10 cards...recently i got a new thought of buyin' nly a new grfx card instead of upgradin the whole comp (just postponing..some unxpected delay in upgrading...coz of hardware unavailability which i hadnt foreseen). i wanted to know wil this b a gud idea...let me tel u my current snail-like config...

intel P4 1.7GHz proccy..(quite gud!)
VIA chipset based mobo with onboard grfx..S3 ProSavage DDR. (dnt knw xact model of my mobo..anyway to find dat out? small software or sumthing..)
Seagate 40GB HDD (simple..not SATA!)
256MB SD RAM...very low i know..
mst probably i hv AGP slot on my mobo..and buying AGP based grfx card is foolishness i know..bt cant help it.

i wanna know whether adding grfx card to this config wil make any visually detectable difference to my gaming & other xperience?

man if ur not rigid abt your cpu u can consider amd x2 4200 right now...

the price has dropped like anything and x2 4200 can be compared to E6300 at stock speed....and whats great that its abt 4000 rs cheaper...so with that 4000 extra u can invest even on a better graphics card...here is wat your config can look like:

Amd X2 4200+ = 5k
Asus M2N-E = 6.5k
Kingston 1GB DDRII 667 mhz = 3.8k
320GB SATA II = 3.85k
Samsung 17" 740N = 9.9k (8ms response time...gud enuf 4 games?)
XFX 7600GT(9.1k)

what say man!

hy dude i googled on the mobo u suggested & read few reviews...E6300 is way ahead of X2 4200+ and oc capabilities are also much better..i think i wil go with C2D only. no doubt its costly bt its worth it...and i want to try my hand at oc! :)

infact somehow i feel P5N-E SLI is better than even P5B Deluxe Wifi...as apart from oc..it has SLI which can be used in the long term.

ok man now if ur overclocking...go for core 2 duo E4300...ppl say it overclocks like crazeeee....u can check out its overclocking abilities in either anandtech or tomshardware...and u will know wt i m sayin....and also ensure that u get a good gabinet ...extra 120mm fan and have a good cooling system if ur gonna try ur hand on overclocking!
