Singapore Grand Prix race officials have made modifications to the Turn 10 chicane on the Marina Bay circuit following concerns about the bumps on the kerbs.
A number of Formula One drivers said that changes needed to be made to the high bumps that had been put on the kerbs to try and prevent drivers from cutting straight across the chicane.
The drivers were worried that hitting the bumps could cause suspension damage or even damage a tub. They also raised concerns that the bumps would pitch them into the wall on the outside of the corner.
Honda Racing's Jenson Button told autosport.com: "If you run over that kerb it is going to do a tub and probably your spine as well. It is strange we haven't tested it before, and only here.
"I know the reason for it as it is to stop us cutting the kerbs which is understandable, but it doesn't account for a locked up wheel or a failure."
But following an inspection by F1 race director Charlie Whiting on Thursday afternoon, modifications have been made to the second series of bumps on the right hand kerbs ahead of today's first practice session.
The bumps have been ground down so the edges are now smoothed off, which will allow cars to ride up over them in case anyone makes a mistake and runs wide.
Lewis Hamilton emerged fastest for McLaren in the historic first practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, as Formula One cars took to the track under floodlights for the first time ever.
The Ferraris took second and third, with Felipe Massa just 0.080 seconds behind Hamilton and four tenths of a second ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen.
Heikki Kovalainen completed the top four in the second McLaren, followed by BMW's Robert Kubica.
Giancarlo Fisichella (Force India) and Jenson Button (Honda) had the honour of being the first men to take to the track and the first to set a flying lap respectively, but it was Toyota's Timo Glock and Renault's Fernando Alonso who emerged as the early pace-setters after the opening runs.
The title contenders started cautiously and gradually built up speed, with Hamilton the first of them to hit the front when he lapped in 1:47.160 as the session passed its halfway point.
Alonso briefly got back ahead of Hamilton with his next flying lap, before the Ferraris each took a turn at the top with half an hour remaining.

lazy noobJarno Trulli has been handed a reprimand and a 10,000 Euro fine for driving on the track in the wrong direction after a spin in first practice.
The Italian lost control of his Toyota at the exit of the final turn and ended up sitting sideways across the track.
Rather than spinning around and rejoining the circuit, Trulli drove back up the circuit and swung around into the pitlane.
After being summoned to see the race stewards, Trulli was handed a reprimand and a 10,000 Euro fine for driving his car in the opposite direction to the race, and for crossing the line that separates the pitlane deceleration zone and the track.
