Re: Mobile Buying Guide: December 2012

Pardon the silly question but what is "custom ROM at XDA Forum"?

And another silly question what exactly is a "launcher" and I hope Play store is now what used to be called Android market?
About the p700i can I just erase the custom Lenovo UI and use the stock ICS UI?? Will that void warranty?

And any other suggestions (no Indian manufacturers please) other than the U at around 12-13K?
One concern that i have is that all the phones that I have seen in this price group all seems to have just 512 MB of RAM? Won't that be a problem??

^^ this is Xda Android Forums & Windows Phone Discussion @ xda-developers

yes it will void warranty if you flash the phone.

this is launcher Android A to Z: What is a launcher? | Android Central

for your mobile phone I will say you might find a Xperia U locally for 13k it costs 14k on Flipkart though.

custom build of Android OS. XDA Developer's site is mostly about Android coding and they create updated Android build and share it with the community.

And another silly question what exactly is a "launcher" and I hope Play store is now what used to be called Android market?

homepage (no of homepage, how you want icons to be arranged and multiple settings associated with it) + the application menu (where the preloaded apps + downloaded apps are available). You can google about Nova, GO, Touchwiz launcher to get an idea.
yup. Android Market = Play Store.

About the p700i can I just erase the custom Lenovo UI and use the stock ICS UI?? Will that void warranty?

you can't simply erase it. But install a second launcher (i.e. Android UI) and make it default. So you have Lenovo's UI but hidden with the new UI (or launcher, whatever you wish to call it) being default.

And any other suggestions (no Indian manufacturers please) other than the U at around 12-13K?

Another is Huawei G330 at 11k but not worth it. Internals are low than Lenovo as well as Xperia U. So decide between U & P700i

One concern that i have is that all the phones that I have seen in this price group all seems to have just 512 MB of RAM? Won't that be a problem??

512MB is just sufficient. 768MB would have been better but not possible in this budget.

I have learned that the p700i is a tri-band phone. Will the fact that its not quad-band phone cause any problems to its use in India??

Re: Mobile Buying Guide: December 2012

P700i lacks the 750Mhz band. but here we only have 900 & 1800 both of which are supported by Lenovo. So it will work just fine.

Thanks for the info guys!! :)
@ Sam : I think you mean 850 MHz...
@ thetechfreak : You mean to say that if I install any other "launcher" and use it as the default UI other than the default one provided by the company, it will void warranty?

no. It will not void. Anything that involves rooting will void though(ignore the sentence if you dont know what is rooting)

it is just an application. if you don't like it, uninstall it and the stock launcher will become default again. in short, no application from Play Store can void your warranty.

A5+ is still coming soon on flipkart but from the spec sheet it is the best of the bunch. but better to spend 900 bucks more and get Karbonn A15 from Saholic.

Re: Mobile Buying Guide: December 2012

I'm looking for a BlackBerry below 10k and my eyes are on the Curve 9300 3G (the white one looks damn good). Yeah I'm fully aware of the limited application support and the availability of stunning android phones (G300, G330 etc) at the same price range. But I'd like to go with the BB and stay outta the crowd if it serves the communication purposes well.

But the thing that's holding me back is that I heard internet is available in BB's only if the user subscribes to BIS and no generic 2G/3G plans will work for the same. So I need a final clarification on this matter and if it's true I'll go with some Android phone. Kindly help me out.

BUMP!!!

Nenamark is showing 737x480. you are right, the direction keys are taking up ~60-70 pixel size. will correct it. thanks for the info :)

Re: Mobile Buying Guide: December 2012

@RiGOD As far I know, no generic plans don't work on BB. That's why various carriers have separate plans. anyways read this once [How-To] Use Internet on BlackBerry without BIS Plan
