Hi,

I am getting a new laptop from the US through a relative who is visiting India.
I have zeroed in on the XPS 1530 from Dell (15.4'' model).
The price is $1662 (Approx Rs.66000). Same model cost Rs. 74000 in India.

20.ENVIRONMENTAL OPTIONS

21.Also Inclued:
Dell Printer Driver

Software – Adobe

22.Pre installed:
Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 7.0
Processor Branding
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

I have not included any office package (Office 2007) as I intend to but it over here (The company give it pre installed).

I have chosen this model as it is the only configurable with a 7200 rpm HDD and looks better than others (Except VAIO).

Any Suggestions.

I have a few questions:
1. Do the customs people at the airport charge extra taxes for the laptop(Only single laptop)?
2. What about the warranty and service? Will it be affected if I import it from the US?
3. What about other electronic components like GPU, motherboard, RAM, SMPS, HDD? Are these taxed at the airport?
4. What are your opinions about the 13’’ Dell XPS 1330?

Thanks.

Awaiting replies.

1. Not if your relative is bringing this as his own laptop.. :)
2. I don't think so.
3. Same as 1.
4. Depends on your reqs. Dell is very good. You need to weigh the pros and cons of 13" vs. 15" and decide accordingly. I would prefer 15" 'coz i don't travel much. It'll vary for you.
5. Wrong section.. this should be in mobile monsters.. :)

Why do you need the laptop for??

You can get a HP with dual core1.6G with 2GB RAM, mic+webcam and a DVD writer for 700$.
Why do you want to invest 1000$ more over something which gets outclassed in another 6 months??

Me and my friend bought a lappie each just 2 weeks back.
First one is an HP compaq dual core, 1GB RAM and 160GB Hard drive with inbuilt mic for $449.

Second one my friend got a good deal on account of thanksgiving day.
Its a Toshiba...same config for $299

Both of them working really well :)
