i got Transcend JetFlash 350 16 GB Pen Drive ( USB 2.0) few days back..love it..decent transfer rates at around 7 mbps.
Recently, it survived a Washing machine ordeal ( forgot that the PD was in my back pocket of jeans)..still works flawlessly...may be a miracle..

I suggest Transcend JetFlash 810... It has some militiary grade protection (durability) according to the promotional material. I'm using its 32 GB version, and it is USB 3.0 too.
It has rubber outer cover, which helps in reducing shocks and so.
For the kind of money demanded, it is pretty fast and safe both. It fell from a height and it still works properly. The cap is easy to lose though, so that's the only thing you must take care about it.
For digital protection of files out of the box, try some Sandisk pendrive. They have some software preinstalled. But again, softwares can be downloaded from the internet on your Transcend too.
