problem with OS

hy folks
recently i formatted my PC
nw no microsoft office application running on it.
the window which pops up says..
"this OPERATING SYSTEM is not configured to run this application"

wat to now...
nethng can done othr than formatting..

plz tell me..

wen we go to Add n Remove programs section..
we find one more option there
dats:
"set program access and defaults"
it has options for configuration like,
1.microsoft windows
2.non microsoft
3.custom

i chkd the radio button.. but nothing is happenin.evrytime i open this ,i custom option checkd... is that has nethng to do with this!!
