Whenever i try to eject my 2 tb WD portable hdd, my pc gives this error: "Windows can't stop your 'Generic volume' device because it is in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again later."

I can't find any program that is using the wd hdd. Is there any fix for this?

If you were playing any media files in iTunes/WinAmp or any such programs you may have to close those before removing you HD (or a pdf/doc in which case you have to close the pdf reader/ word).

try it in linux. if it is ok, your windows may be affected by some virus.

If its happening every time even when you are not using any files on that Mass storage then its a Virus. Do a complete scan of your system, preferably boot scan.
