@Thread operator - What do you need the camera for?

1) Just casual photography or to fulfill your passion for photography?

2) Would you print the pics?

3) Do you need such a ultra zoom lens camera?

For your purpose, the sony camera which you own should be good. 7.2 MP is more than enough to take good prints. I guess it must be having 3x~4x optical zoom.

Also getting a high end camera just for zoom doesn't make any sense. Your 7.2 MP should give you adequate controls to tinker & get a good photograph. Try using it in manual mode & you should get a hint whether you really need a new one or not. Just my advise.

Between Sony & Canon, difficult to point which is better. Personally I prefer Canon out of the two.

I have Canon S5IS and enjoying it.

Canon has launched PowerShot SX200 IS @ 23,995.00 recently. It also has 12X optical zoom but is more compact (with 12 MP). The battery provided with it (PowerShot SX200 IS) is not as good (only 280 pics) as that of S5IS (around 450).

Moreover, canon has also launched SX10IS and SX1IS in past which supports a wooping 20X optical zoom with similar features (SX1IS supports full HD while SX10IS doesn't). The price of SX1IS is INR 36,995.00 and SX10IS is INR 25,995.00.

If zoom is the only criteria then also look for Olympus SP-590UZ with 26X optical zoom or Nikon Coolpix P90 with 24X optical zoom.
