Partitioning error

I had a large partition of 26GB mounted on "/" which i needed to shrink to 10GB and add the free space to another partition of 16GB.
Using Gparted, I shrunk the large partition, but im not able to increase the size of the other partition. I am allowed to create a new partition with the unallocated space.
My 16GB partition was mounted on "/Home", If I create another 16GB partition with the unallocated space and mount it on "/Home", will I get a total of 32GB for /Home ?? because I have too many files which dont fit into 16GB, and i am not allowed to save the files on "/" where the space is being wasted

u can't have two /home mount point working at the same time, afaik.
Though you can mount other partitions inside /home, google it :)

then how do I go ahead??
because Gparted is not allowing me to increase the size of my partitions... it is allowing only shrink functions...

Someone please help...
Im stuck and i need help...

are the two partitions adjacent ? is one of the is extended and other is primary ?

no.. all partitions are under Extended

my basic requirement is to get more more space for storing my user docs... even if it means combining all partitions together...
but how?? sum1 pls help... its very urgent...

it seems the unallocated space is not adjacent to the partition /dev/sda8.

Its not possible unless you do a successive shrink and increase till the unallocated space come adjacent to /dev/sda8..

correct me if am wrong.

^^will be a long time consuming process
1. allocate the free space to sda5 partition (as it is adjacent to the unallocated space)
2. Now shrink this partition so as to leave unallocated space adjacent to sda7 (swap partition).
3. Now delete the. swap partition
4. the whole unallocated space will be now adjacent to the sda8 (home partition)
5. Now make swap from the unallocated partition allocating space at starting portion of unallocated.
6. Now you have unallocated partition left alongside home patition.
7. You should be able to increase the space in sda8.

its a lengthy process, there is no guarantee, but still if u like then try.

^^nope, unless u want to use only linux. Be careful with the partitioning, take backup before doing anything

though i have one 80GB drive, etx3 partitioned, i spend most of my time in linux, no virus, spyware and other fear.
