part of touchscreen not working (HTC legend)

My HTC legend was working well till last night but now a part of the touchscreen has become unresponsive and its really annoying. I Don't think its an software problem since i tried factory reset even installed the stock froyo ROM (clearing all data and cache) but the problem still persists. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what could be the solution.

Is it in warranty? If it is give a visit to the service centre. Make sure the device is not rooted or any other rooted application is installed. If they find the device was tampered with warranty cannot be claimed.

even if it is out of warranty you really donot have many options.

This explains the non working screen. You have no option other than fixing it at the service centre
