Guys my HTC One V gave up last week and I am going without a smartphone since a week so need a phone urgently. Tried for Xiaomi Mi3 but couldnt grab one so final call is between HTC Desire 816 and Nexus 5. Please suggest which one should I go for. I am in double mind - case of mind versus heart.

I have noticed following pros and cons in both

Nexus 5
pros

-has a class of its own
-guaranteed android update
-blazing fast hardware

cons
-battery life as reported
-nearing its end of life cycle
-camera not great as per owners & no sd card which may cause one to loose data if eventually the phone suddenly gives up.

HTC Desire 816
pros
13MP + 5MP BSI camera combo
dual speakers
looks + htc sense 6.0

cons
same processor now in 6000 rupees Redmi 1S.
hardware config not so great
priced at 23k

Please help asap. I need to make an urgent purchase. And is it ok to buy Nexus 5 from local mobile stores?

First decide you want a phablet type size or phone type size. Those two devices can't be compared IMHO. Nexus 5 is a capable phone, D816 is a decent phablet.

I will pick N5, just because it runs on stock Android, and that's the only reason. If you don't want to put a protective case for it though make sure you use it like a Chinese tea pot set. If size does not matter to you then 816 of course.

first preference is nexus 5 if you really like htc then

don't buy desire 816 you are right about having that 6000 processor in a 25k phone, so buy desire 820

desire 820 has Snapdragon 615

8 x cortex A53 + Adreno 405

announcement is in a few days but launch might take time maybe by september mid-end

till then you can keep trying for mi3 ... any phone costing more than 14000 for that snapdragon 400 is a rip off ..

then there is moto X+1 launching for the same price as well .. don't buy now, all phones are outdated now .. September is the month of new phone launches .. and even nexus 5 will see the price drop in this month most likely

Cyber Genius FTW
nexus 5 any day
its camera quality is massively underhyped, its better than alot of other android phone cameras,it takes decent shots(This coming from someone who uses a D90,1200D and a Lumia 720 on a nearly daily basis)
as for build quality ,ive dropped mine tonnes of times from 5-6 feet heights with a capdase cover on, not even a scratch
though id also ask you to have a look at G2 because of the sd card slot otherwise even a nexus 5 should suffice

My N4 takes decent enough shots, so N5 will tooo.......
Battery life & storage might be an issue

So avoid N5.
Other options:
Moto X (16 GB) vs Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 vs LG G2 vs HTC One E8: Compare Mobiles: Flipkart.com

Both Moto X & G2 have 16GB storage only

Brand NEW IN BOX LG G2 32GB D802 White Color NO Operator Logo | eBay
This one doesn't have Manufacturer warranty though (Gave this option becoz you were ready to pick Xiaomi)

Checked out Nexus 5 and HTC 816 at Chroma store today. Camera wise Nexus 5 is big let down in comparison with 816. 13MP shooter is league ahead in terms of picture quality, color reproduction, contrast and clarity. Same with its 5 MP front camera.

This is primarily one area Nexus 5 lags behind.

Rest performance wise Nexus 5 is any day better than 816, apps were opening more fluidly than 816.

But camera on Nexus 5 disappointed me which as a hobbyist photographer is my priority to have a good camera phone.

Please pardon for this noob question.

Just wanted to know if dual sim phones have any health hazard associated with them as two radios are working for two independent sim cards?

SAR value is 0.54W/Kg for HTC 816 dual sim.
