Hi, I am planning to buy a new desktop. I really need some useful help from you guys.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: For everyday use like movies, music a little bit of programing & I am not going to play games often.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes, definitely.

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 35k but want it to be 2-3k lower.

4. Planning to overclock?
A: Yes, definitely.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows 7 Home Premium, Fedora.

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 1 TB with a 7200 RPM.

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: I want a 20 inch monitor with good resolution & good screen.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: I will give myself 5.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: Built a desktop 2-3 years ago but like to build it myself.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Probably in April.

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Yes, definitely.

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: I have speakers creative 2.1

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: New Delhi, I am open to buy from cities that are nearer to Delhi like Noida or Gurgaon.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: I would like an AMD rig because I have heard that they offer good value for money.

If you dont need a graphics card then simply ignore it. But it is highly recommended to use a graphics card to boost the total performance of the system even you are not into gaming.

But his needs are just music, films n programming...
So why suggesting killer configs...?
But the OP can go for the above configs since they will fit in his budget.

Op can go for this config. Its perfectly balanced according to op's requirements. Just add a good ups like an apc 600va @ 1.6k and the build is complete.

If op can spend 3k more, then core i5 2400 + intel h67bg will be a much better option over the amd.

^^ But a 500W power supply is recommended if he wants to upgrade graphics after a year by using CrossfireX

Lastly, I heard the gain in performance of a SLI/CrossfireX setup is around 40-50%. So multi GPU setups do help, imo.

I was mentioning the PSU...
Ya i know there will be good improvement in crossfire/sli...
But it is not recommended to crossfire/sli on a 500w PSU....
