Thanks for the reply. I did try out the Mac in the Apple store yesterday. Well it felt a bit strange probably cuz i have never used one before. My concern is that i would windows work fine in a dual boot and is mac softwares as easily available as windows.

Well it depends. But on a mass I would say NO the softwares are still not that easily available . But you can always run Windows on it.

Are you into gaming? Any thing you get in that budget might be overkill for just work  You can get a powerful Gaming laptop in that range.

If you're in the UK you should try PCSPECIALIST - Custom PCs, Custom Computers, Custom PC, Desktop PC, Custom Built Computers, Gaming PC. Their prices are quite competitive. I've ordered their SkyfireIII, it'll be delivered to my cousin in the UK in the next 2 days, but I'll only get it in late December. They build custom laptops based on Clevo and Msi chassis and their service seems fantastic so far. They keep you updated on every stage of the building process through email and they deliver quite quickly usually in 15-20 days(mine is expected on the day after, which will be 20 days since order)

And if you're staying in the UK, then warranty wont be an issue for you like it is for me.

Here's a few sample configs I made for you:

You can swap the Graphics card for a GTX770 and upgrade to i7-4900MQ.

This is some of the best stuff you'll get for the price. Hope it helps :)

Edit: didn't see that you've already been to PCspecialist. In that case, +1 to that. Look at my configs thats more power for your budget ;-)

If you require the GTX 780m then go for the 17" Vortex IV, else go for the Asus G750JX.
importing the Vortex is gonna cost you quite a lot too.
Advantages of Vortex over Asus:
1) SSD
2)Better graphic card.

Advantages of Asus over Vortex:
1)Warranty in India.
2) Cheaper.

Well for occasional gaming I do not recommend anyone to buy a gaming laptop. They are bulky and fat. MB is a fine product from Apple. And he will be doing a lot of work which requires a good display and no other has a better display than MB. Rest all the things may be crap.

If you can get your hands on a Razer Blade Pro then go with it. It is a best of both worlds laptop. Solid Gaming performance albeit not as high as GTX 780M. It has a GTX 765m. It is extremely thin and has a pretty good battery life. It has a good enough Full HD screen.

Yes, both MB pro and the Razer Blade Pro are extremely good options for someone who doesnt care much about gaming performance

Personally, I think that both Alienware and Razer Blade are too expensive for not as much power. Same with Macs. The only reason to go with a Macbook is if you want a slim and lightweight laptop and have a lot of money to spend on good looks rather than performance :p

and the razer blade is no longer the slimmest 15.6" gaming grade laptop either, its the gigbyte p35k.

Hi Guys,

Thanks much for your replies. I live in the Uk so it makes sense for me to buy here with regards to warranty and support however i can consider buying in India if the same model is considerably cheaper.

I have a PS3 awhich i hardly get time to play nowadays...so although i would like to have a dedicated graphics card for the occasional gaming my main needs are memory and processor mainly because running multiple Virtual machines is going to eat up a lot of resources

No, UK is a cheaper and there's a lot more choice. I did all the research while I bought mine.

Well, afaik, the i7 4700MQ and 16/32 gb RAM should be more than sufficient for any of your VM needs...Thats what I said before, INR 150,000 seems too much for any of that. If you don't want gaming, then you could fit that in almost half of your budget, heck you can even go for the i7-4800 or 4900 both of which are higher clocked and still have some money to spare.

Here's a no Graphic card config with an i7-4900MQ with an SSD thats well within your budget.

Any more power than that in a Laptop and you're basically looking at a hulk with a desktop processor thats trying to disguise itself in a skin of laptop and failing miserably, such as this
^they're calling it a "Mobile Server supercomputer-class laptop" XD
