Hi Guys,

This is my first ever PC build. I wanted this for development work (i.e. .NET/ASP, CAD related - AutoCAD 2015) and gaming. I do not consider myself a hardcore gamer and expect 60fps @1080p resolution on 24' Monitor.

Here is my proposed build, please suggest improvements and tell me if i will encounter any problems in the build.

OT: I keep getting PCPartPicker is temporarily unavailable. I have tried opening this website a lot of time

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
Dev Applications: Visual Studio 2013-2015, Windows Phone and Android Emulator, AutoCAD 2013-2015.
Games: Assassin's Creed Unity, Call Of Duty Ghosts and Advanced Warfighter 2, upcoming games like Witcher 3 and GTA V for PC. etc.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:

  • Less than 50K for Case, Motherboard, CPU, and RAM. As i have already bought some other components. I have additional budget for the card, which I'll buy next month.

Please make sure that basic components should be less than 50K Rs. As i would be buying them in steps.
  • Additional 30K budget for the descrete Graphics Card, hence the NVIDIA GTX 970 Card.
  • Total Budget: 90,000 Rs.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 8.1

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 2TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Already bought it. its 24 inch @1920x1200 res.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:

I have already bought these:

Dell U2412M 60Hz 24.0" Monitor
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)
SeaSonic S12II 520W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:
In 1 Weeks time i would give the order on Amazon.in

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:
Never assembled so many components together, but overtime i've had experiences.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:
I live in Sitapura, Jaipur. I would be buying online via amazon.in.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
Nope, Just thanks in advance. :)

^ +1 to this config. Save money by sourcing parts from different sellers (PrimeABGB, The IT Depot, MD Computers, etc). 120 GB Samsung 850 Evo will also suffice for the needs.

^^ CPU - I would prefer i7 only as Xeon is uncharted territory for me. I really don't know when Xeon would be better choice.
Case - Is Carbide 400R better than SPEC-03 mobo. ? I really like the window in the SPEC-03 case and the LED light.

Xeon E3 1246 V3 is basically an i7 4790 with lower powered iGPU.

Hi ankurmay1988,

Take a look of this configuration, maybe it will fulfill your requirement.

AMD FX-9590 (8 Core)

Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 1866mhz
Samsung 850 pro-Series 256GB SSD
WD Black 2TB for performance
MSI GeForce GTX 980 or GeForce GTX 970
Corsair CX 600W

For Cabinet, you can go with the any brand; based on your budget.

Well, I think i will go for i7 4790 for now, because I'm not comfortable with Xeon. I have consulted people about it and they too think its not for Heavy Usage its more optimized for long working hours and continous operation, some down the line performance might get ignored.
So, I7 4790 is my Final decision.

Thank you for the complete pc spec :).
Well, i never bought an AMD PC, so if can link to any benchmarks that would compare i7 4790 to AMD FX-9590, that shows drastic improvements.

- - - Updated - - -

There is one more thing. I recently saw the review for Corsair Carbide SPEC-03 Case. And i really like the Tainted Glass Window and LED Lights that come with it. So, I am now thinking maybe drop the idea for Corsair Carbide 400R and take SPEC-03 instead.

Corsair Carbide SPEC-03 has:
1. Top and Bottom Dust Filters.
2. Tainted Glass Side Window
3. Stock - Red, Blue, White, and Orange LED Fans.
4. Cheaper than Carbide 400R. (Approx. 10-20$)

So, if anyone can really compare these two cases., and tell me which one is better. I would be really glad.

Hi ankurmay1988,

I agree with you, the Intel i7-4790 is more reliable than AMD FX 9590 processor. The reason to suggest to AMD FX 9590 to fulfill the requirement in the same budget. In terms of performance, I believe AMD FX 9590 is the best value for money because the AMD architecture technology is based to improve the efficiency, and good in graphics modelling.

What ever you do, don't buy an and graphics card.

An Intel CPU is what I would recommend.

I already did my part in researching the best GPU at the moment. GTX 970 has no match in mid-range segment. But this may change in some time has HBM Memory is right at the corner and AMD is first to get HBM v1 Memory. But what performance improvements will it give in current generation GAMES is still a technological debate. I guess we just to wait for the first card i.e. AMD Radeon R9 390X Series cards.

Currently, i think i should go for NVIDIA GTX 970.

go for it mate, good hardware is only as good as its software.
AMD drivers are crap.

Stick to consoles.

OP: Good config. Although, as a Xeon user, let me tell you that there's no CPU performance difference between it and a non-K i7. I am also a .NET developer and casual gamer.

Hey @asciif00,

Just wondering why i cant see Kingston HyperX DDR3 8 GB 1866 MHz in supported Memory list for Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H motherboard?

I think it only supports 1600MHz unless im wrong here ?

Nerevarine

If it supports max upto 1600 mhz memory, using a higher clocked memory will automatically reduce it .. Dont worry, it will work just fine..

Using a i7 4790K here with Gigabyte Z97M D3H. According to the supported memory it supports only upto 1600MHZ, but i am running Kingston HyperX DDR3 8 GB at 1866 MHz.
The reason why the RAM module does not default to 1600MHZ is the Kingston’s PNP feature.
To know more about this please refer to this review. (Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1866 2X4GB Memory Kit Review - Overclockers)
