Is the power supply sufficient enough or do I need a higher wattage?
6790 or Gtx 550?
I've been thinking of this rig for a week now. TIA!

1st of all, stay away from Huntkey Jumper PSU, never heard of 'em. Better get Corsair CX500 V2. 2ndly it is very difficult to find Phenom II 955 processors now a days, they're just vanished from most of the shops.
Regarding Ram, get a single Corsair Vengeance or G-skill RipjawX 4GB 1600 MHz stick instead of 2X2 GB config.
No point of getting Sata III HDD by paying extra as HDDs are slower device and they never even cross the bandwidth of SATA II interface.

For Graphics card, pickup HD 6790 as it performs better than GT 550 and also consumes far lesser power. But my suggestion is to pick up HD 6850, currently retailing around 8.6K.

Now coming to the main part: For getting best suggestions from us, please fill up the *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-compon...new-pc-help-answer-these-questions-first.html and post it here.

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
Last time I heard of huntkey psu was back when hardware secrets put up a writeup that huntkey guys tried to bribe him with advertisement revenues for putting a favourable review. It wasn't a good power supply, I think it just died in the middle of stress testing. Not sure if they moved on, but when there are choices that are clearly better, best to avoid such stuff.

Seasonic S12II 520 gets my vote, although you can't go wrong with CX500 V2 either.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:Gaming and schoolwork. Games like RE5, Metro 2033, Crysis 2, Modern Warfare 3, Mafia 2, and Starcraft 2.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 41k-43k Rs

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:A little bit

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 Ultimate

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 Gb

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Samsung 18.5" Wide LED

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Mouse, Keyboard, and Speakers.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: As soon as possible

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: I have built a desktop before.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: I'm currently in the Philippines and I'm buying locally. I don't wanna buy online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:

For Graphics card, pickup HD 6970 as it performs better than GT 550 and also consumes far lesser power. But my suggestion is to pick up HD 6850, currently retailing around 8.6K.

That would be 6790 or Gtx 550 Ti. Not 6970

Hey Carl you mentioned that you're going to buy locally from the Philippines. Can you give us a couple of your country's local websites for Hardware parts so that we can know the pricing around there? :)

Carl, RiGod's config is the perfect balance rig. But My suggestion is to spend 1.5K more and grab the HIS HD 7850 2 GB GDDR5 @ 15.3K. It is better than both 560 Ti and HD 6950 and performance is closer to HD 6970.

Here is the link for HD 7850: *www.theitwares.com/7850-gddr5-h785...y-crossfirex-support-graphic-card-p-2564.html

Guys am I the only one that is seeing this? Carl as I mentioned before do give us the links of a couple of online shops in your country so that we can see what the price is like. Also the budget you mentioned of 41-43k is in Indian Rupees. If you're buying in the Philippines won't the prices be different?

Ok just let me explain it one more time.

Rigod's rig is good but three things are wrong with it. First, I don't want to use 960T 'cause I think I want to stick with the 955 BE. Second, it has no monitor which I need. Third, it has a very good GPU I must agree but getting that kind of GPU Card would overshoot my budget by alot.

I've also decided to stick with straight AMD so no Intels for me...that's why I'm thinking of what to get...6790 or Gtx 550 Ti...on my rig those are the only GPUs that would fit my budget.

Lastly, if Huntkey isn't good...can I go with HEC Cougar?

SunE, here are some examples of our local online shops.

My budget in Philippine Peso is around 32k-34k.
Your rig is good but I really think I can't afford those kind of GPUs.
Anywhere I can chop off my expense? Like for example getting an Athlon II x2 275 and OCing it instead of Phenom II? Will it bottleneck the GPU?
