i planned 2 make my own external HDD, i started 2 research n got a lot of options n now i m confused  someone please guide me:oops: .
 speed of external HDD is most imp, portability does not matter

 sud i go 4 a 2.5" or a 3.5" HDD
 is there any advantage in going 4 a 7200rpm HDD over 5200
 is it fine if i buy a local external case for 400-500 bucks or will buying a branded one improve de performance drastically. what brand sud i go for
 is there a limit to the capacity of de HDD
 finally how is life of a HDD if kept in a external case as compared 2 a internal one.

i hav a budget of 4000-5000

Its important to note that u r building EXTERNAL HDD

### 2.5 " HDD is for portability & its HDDs (da laptop ones) are of 5400rpm
3.5 " are normal internal HDDs

### speed is usually restricted since Ex HDD uses a USB interface

external cases are provided by many companies
cases from Zippy's & Transend are widely available ....
there are 2 things to note

1) IDE based cases is used 4 IDE drives which costs around 500 Rs for 3.5 & 300Rs 4 a 2.5 casing
2) SATA based cases 4 Sata drives...costing around 1500 Rs

###There is limits based on the manufacturer ( recommended by him) normally 500-800 gb .However the Heat dissipated is to be taken to account

###Life vary according to ur handling options ....Remember not to move the Ex HDD when it runs & dont drop it even while it is asleep

Moreover get HDD's from WD & Seagate which carry a decent warranty so u can get a reprive easily

Good luck & post ur External HDD ok
