ipod touch not working HELP!

i bought 1st generation iPod touch yesterday, it is not working, i kept it for charging overnight but then also it is not showing anything in it, as soon as i turn it on, it shows apple logo for some time and then it disappears. i have installed itunes 8 in my pc. but neither my pc nor itunes is showing any device connected to it.

If itunes does not recognize the ipod when you plug it in, then it's probably damaged. Try replacing/exchanging it under warranty.

My Gen-2 ipod touch was detected the very first time I connected it to itunes.
