The term 'visibility' is used in the context of search engine visibility. When a website is not indexed(or just few non-useful pages are indexed), the site is said to be invisible to the search engines.

The causes of such invisibility could be with search engine optimization(SEO). An webpage author, at his wish, can also make the webpages invisible by using the META NOINDEX tag.

Search engines that claim to find invisible website are the ones with better(?) crawling. They may also not respect the META NOINDEX tag and index a page against the wish of the author.

It is estimated that the Deep Web is many many times bigger than the Visible Web.
Yahoo tried to index these sites, don't know if they succeeded?!

+1. perfect.

However, i have seen (while checking my mail at Yahoo!) tht there were some ads that were invisible (literally) and they appear just over ur message list. so when u try to click the message the overlaid ad used to get clicked and i was redirected to some site. Tht was sick. since many months it has stopped..

Can't one use 'disallow' in robots.txt for the same purpose ?
