Internal or External HDD

Democracy is a myth
External storage: you can carry them wherever you want.

If system crashes you have your docs available with you which can be extracted with help of any pc/laptop.

That's the most basic use of external HDD. External 3.5" cost almost same as that of Internal but portables cost more. Externals are used for backup only, you cannot install an OS on it.

Seagate GoFlex Desk USB3 @ 3.8k

If its not available
Seagate GoFlex Desk USB2 @ 3.4k
USB3 Dock @ 1.8k

No need for external power. The dock (comes with both) can be used to attach any internal HDD via USB.

Is it possible to use Eco Friendly Hard Drive | Barracuda® Green | Seagate on USB3 dock ??

Total cost: 4600 + 1800 = 6400 (for 2TB)

Both of these are same. Both can be used with internal HDD. Both have Auto Backup and encryption.
USB3 version is without the USB2 dock.
USB2 with USB3 dock is secondary if USB3 is not available.

Correct me if I am wrong

1) Seagate Goflex Desk USB3 --- 3.8k
- Comes with USB 3.0 cable & power adapter
- Use 1 USB 3.0 port
- No dock (so..can't use any internal hdd as external)
- Faster than Seagate Goflex Desk USB2

2) Seagate Goflex Desk USB2 -- 3.4k
- Comes with USB 2.0 cable & power adapter
- Use 1 USB 2.0 port
- No dock
- Can upgarde to USB3 using Seagate GoFlex Desk Adapter : USB 3.0 - www.deltapage.com but then require 2 USB ports
- Benefit of purchasing dock
(1) upgrade to 3.0
(2) Can use any internal hdd as external

3) In speed
Seagate Green 2TB 5900rpm 6GB/s 64MB (Internal) - 4.6k > Seagate Goflex desk USB3 3.8k > Seagate Goflex desk USB2 3.4k

Both the drives come with a dock. The USB2 drive's USB2 dock can be replaced by the USB3 dock.

The USB3 version already comes with this. So its a better value than "USB2 + USB3 Dock"

Also where did you read that it needs 2 USB ports.
The USB2 version needs external power and transfers data via USB2 slot.
The USB3 version draws power and transfers data both from USB3 slot.

And about your third point.
The USB3 version is as fast as a regular Desktop Harddrive. If you use a fast harddrive like the WD Velociraptor, it will run as fast as it could run internally (nearly).
It wouldn't even bottleneck a fast SSD.
