Improve this old laptop.

We have a old bull$hit laptop with 24 MB RAM, 700 MB HDD, Pentium 1 100 Mhz. Dad wants to give it to my aunt for checking mails. IE4 isn't working properly and I installed firefox. firefox is a memory hog for it. Please suggest somethings to improve this bull$hit thing.

Dad is eating me....HELP!....HELP!.....HELP!

did you used some light Linux distro like slack,DSL....?
there are some light live cd's available for various distros like puppy,etc...
and BTW 24 MB ram is way to low....i am not sure whether these will work..

your best option is to use DSL.
I n case you are stuck with windows, you should consider Opera.

The sad part of the thing is that it doesn't have a CDROM and the floppy drive is under breakdown i.e. irreparable

Oh ... You even installed Firefox on it! ...

Even if you put in an old browser in it, it'd crap out while loading the modern mail inbox pages today.

Simply set up a mail client instead.

Gmail HTML and Yahoo WAP or Classic can atleast be used......

U must try DSL IMO!
24MB RAM is pathetic!!!!
Only DSL can rescue u.I think the latest version is 96 MB in size.better give it a try

No way Linux on it dudes. It has to be configured for a Tata Indicom wireless dialup which presently is supported on windows only.

If that was mine, I would install Opera and use Gmail (wap) in it. Or you can install IE 5.5, if you get your hands on an Office 2000 CD.

sounds cool for wap. but for IE 5.5 I think it won't get installed coz its pirated (both OS and MSO). BTW, I said it has no CDROM.

It has Office 97 installed
