Login as root somewhere and give this:

# init 1

Init 1 is the runlevel which has least functionality, but is damn good if you want to fix lowlevel problems with your system.

hi guys...
thx 4 ur reply..but this is not the one i was looking for...
i had attentend a meeting of PLUG(Pune Linux User Group)which helds in pune,in which they had some shortcut keys at the time of booting linux..i had it on a piece o paper, but i lost!!!in that case no need to modify kernel code..if anyone is aware of that thing, plz update..i repeat i've not created any other user A/C..in case i forget my Root password,i should be allowed to enter in shell by "Single User"mode..
kidly update the same

thx & regds
