I'm planning to buy a PC for gaming purpose to play games like crysis, crysis warhead, far cry2, cod mw2 etc. I had locked in on

Phenom2 X4 940 BE: 7300
GA-MA-790GP-UD4H: 8400 (not sure about this)
Corsair ddr2 4gb: 5000
cooler master 690: 4800
Power supply 650w: 5000
Zotac gtx 260 2 AMP: 12300
seagate 1 Tb: 3950
DVD writer: 1050
Dont need a monitor since I'll use my 32 inch Samsung LCD TV.

But i'm not sure if this PC would be future proof since i'm taking a ddr2 mobo and ddr2 RAM.

The vendor has confused me further by suggesting to take intel i5 750 cpu (9600) + DP55WB mobo (5500) which would cost me around 15k and as per him would be much more future proof since it is based on a new socket. I can get a transcend/ kingston ddr3 2X2gb RAM for 5300.

Please suggest a future proof platform and config that would give me nice gaming performance for not more than 50k.

Instead look for

Phenom II X4 945 BE AM3 processor (AM3 is a new socket)
Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-US2H DDR3 based mobo
Corsair or transcend 1333MHz DDR3 2x2Gb
Sapphire HD5850 GPU (dx11 card and is blazingly fast) or HD5770 for 11k-12k (dx11 card)
Corsair VX550W (should be enough for this rig)

rest is your choice.

Will this configuration stay within my budget?

I heard gtx260 has better performance than hd5770 though 5770 would have dx11 advantage. But probably by the time dx11 games come in, there would anyways be a need for a better gpu than 5770, isn't it? HD 5850 is way too costly, I think.

I agree with you on going ahead with a AM3 socket but is AMD X4 945 overclockable, just in case I feel like doing it, haven't done it ever.

Non BE CPU's can be OCed for sure, although it is easier in BE CPU's due to unlocked multiplier.

Phenom II X4 945 - 8.5k
Gigabyte 785GMT-US2H - 5.5k

GTX260 or 4890 or 5850. 10.5k or 13k or 17k

or what you can do is go for phenom IIx4 925 for 7.5k and 785g based board for 5.5k. this can can help you rise budget for GPU. a better gpu and cpu with less oc capability is better than decent gpu and high oc cpu.

Gamer = GPU, OCer = CPU. Hence, desii is right. CPU may be compromised upon here rather than GPU.

I've almost finalized the config.

AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 BE: 8200
GA-MA-785GMT-UD2H: 5800
Transcend DDR3 2 X 2gb: 5200
Seagate 1 Tb HDD: 4000
Sapphire HD5850: 17000
DVD RW: 1050
UPS 800VA: 3500
CM Elite 335: 2000
CM 650W: 5000

I hope I'm right about the cabinet and power supply. Since I'm going with 5850, i had to cut budget on them. I'm already 5k over my budget.

Do I need a 650W PSU? Would it be enough if in future I wish to crossfire 2 5850's? If not, then I might settle for something cheaper right now.
Is this cabinet big enough to take in 2 5850's, with suitable Mobo or should I get Zebronics Bijli, which I think is huge?

A 550W should also be enough and even a corsair VX450W for 3k should be able to power that config.
