Gear up ...
Helping my friend build his gaming PC, sadly not my turn yet .
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Gaming & maybe some streaming. He mostly plays competitive shooters like Rainbow 6 & Call of Duty, he wants no fps drops below 144fps.
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 1.1 lakhs, already at its max (initially it was 100k)
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No, he won't
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win10
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB+
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No, he already has Lenovo Y25f, a 1080p 144Hz TN monitor
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, KB & mouse
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: When lockdown is lifted
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Likely getting it assembled
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Bengaluru
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Got a quote from a seller in Delhi who said he will ship built PC to address in BLR. How is this done? Is it safe? Anything that he needs to be wary of?
Total - ₹ 1,12,690
I asked him to replace mobo to AsRock Phantom X570 Gaming4, seller said it should cost similar but wouldn't provide an exact number as lockdown came into effect. Also asked for a quote on Kingston A2000 & Crucial MX500 2.5" to replace that expensive A400.
Not sure how the seller is providing a Win10 Pro retail key for free, I'm expecting it to be an OEM one. Do sellers do that if you buy the whole PC from them?
So anything else that needs modification or something he should look for?
Will SP Road have a better deal? Any ideas?
