Re: Firefox 2.0.0.11 Released!!!!

Quite late, but wanted to say anyways.
Have u tried FF 3 Beta 2?
It eats lesser memory and is faster than FF2 IMO.

Regards,
ray
FF 3 eats less memory, boot time is faster and surfing is as good as it was before. But the downside neither scripts work nor addons:mad:

^^^ Coz its updated via package manager not natively. So when the repos haf the update, its updated; its usually couple of hours after mozilla issues the updated version.

Otherwise you can manuall download the updated version and install.

FF3 fixes many memory leak issues which are yet to be fixed in FF2 :p

Reason why i never can switch to other browsers.

  • Its the only web browser to be most widely accepted & compatible to most sites other than IE.
  • It function as a a download meter for my Broadband connection with datafox extension.
  • It syncs my bookmarks over my laptop & desktop seamlessly using foxmarks, so i don't miss any of my fav sites.
  • The grease monkey extension lets me write my own scripts, i can automate many tasks, change looks of websites etc, the possibilities are endless.
  • Ubuntu+Firefox+noscript extension, makes me feel safe, i can rely upon it for doing various transaction of monetary value.
  • Its thousands of themes never make me feel bored, i change theme according to my mood. right now using a very old theme called noia which i used when i was in 11th, it remind me of my old good school days.
  • its Adblock features let me browse torrent sites, even small kids are around, else you know what kind of ads appear on them.
  • Its FireGPG extension for gmail encrypts my mails for super secret talking to you-know-who:p . no other browser in my knowledge does that.

Well i can go on & on but i am not a fanboy so, here is a major flaw i would highlight.

It hangs or crashes multiple times when web 2.0 apps like flash & java, 90% time when a java site or a pdf is loading it is hanged for a few secs, if you try to open other tabs, it may crash too. for pdf, i installed a extension which download & open it with evince(linux alternative for abode reader)
But problem is there with java, its more or less same for most browsers all seem to be hanged:mad:
Please suggest any which you know handles, java apps better
I would like FF to improve here, also memory usage is not a concern for me, as my lappy has 2gb & desktop has 1gb.

I use FF for watching flash content.:mrgreen:My primary browser in Ubuntu is Opera and I couldn't be bothered about enabling flash in it.It saves me those pesky advertisements "You're the 99,999 visitor.....Blah,blah,blah...".When I DO need to view flash, I just open up FF.
