download speed .....??????

Guys help plz....i have a 256kbps connection and i got it connected two months back..for the first fifteen days i got download speed of 26-30kbps then for next 25 days for 40-90 kbps and now it has again come down to 26-30.....but when i run DSLREPORTS.COM speedtest my download speed it shows 75kbps and upload 114kbps.....i'm confused and all i know is i want the maximum.....HELPPP.??

From theory and from what I know about the experience of 256 Kbps users, 26-30 KB/s is very good. Those tests couild be misleading.

For comparison, I use a 2 Mbs connection that should give me a theoretical maximum sustained speed of about 250 KB/s. In practice, I get 200-250 on a good day, and upto 300 in bursts.

You are writing kbps; it should have been KBps

Dude u are getting good speeds for a 256 kbps connection..i remember getting 18KBps on a 256 kbps connection from my previous ISP

26-30 KBps is really good for a 256 kbps connection... remember.. 8bits=1byte therefore 256 kbps connection =256/8=32KBps (kilo bytes)

and d/load speed of 26 to 30 KBps is = (26 x 8 ) = 208kbps to (30 x 8 ) = 240 kbps...

Thanx guys ......understood the funda 256/8=32 and 56/8=8(old modems)......i got it ....but i wonder why i was getting speed like 53to 70 in utorrent for around 26 odd days, i guess i'm back to norma speed

hi buddy
downloading speed depends a lot on the server from which u are downloading the data.
like if i download something from torrent with good number of seeds i use to get downloading speed of around 150-190 KBps.. i downloaded wimbledon final from its site and i got the speed of around 214 kbps. with the same 256 Kbps...
so always try to download from good servers....
i also own a connection of 256 kbps only

yes, agree to it... also d/load speeds vary from area to area on ur same ISP..
