If ur lappy has a TV tuner facility then u can connect via a S Vid cable. U can also opt for external USB TV tuners and use it to connect the desktop via S Vid.
But quality wont e as impressive as direct D-sub or DVI.

Or u may try some desktop sharing s/w and be sure to have atleast a gigabit ethernet for such cases coz 100mbps connection wud limit the b/w nd causes lags.

ok my laptop and my desktop have S-video slots.
does that mean i can connect?
i just need to use the monitor i do not need processor or the ram or what ever from the laptop just the monitor.

:) i have some nice HD stuff that i want to watch and my OLD CRT does not give me that feel.

no u cannot because both are outputs

if u want to do that simply connect ur laptop and desktop over LAN and then share ur desktop partition that has the videos u want to watch access this drive from ur laptop and play :)

ANd for HD 1080p movies, a gigabit lan is better, or u may face lags here nd there.
