Can I share a wired connection over a data cable?

Terms like Wi-Fi, router, hotspot, wireless don't fit into the situation as I have a wired internet connection to my desktop which doesn't have a Wi-Fi Adapter. Is there a way to share this wired internet connection with my android phone through a data cable?

I am fully aware of those. That's why I set things straight

Infact, I have advised people a couple of times on this forum on how to distribute an internet connection between devices.
What I want to know is whether I can do this(original question) or not. Though it happens from Mobile to PC (Tethering via USB Cable) , will it happen the other way round?

Yes. But depends. There are many apps which supports Reverse Tethering. Look at XDA!

I guess once I tried Connectify, and it has some option to Tether your Internet Connections via USB Cable. I can't remember it correctly. You may check that.

Otherwise as I said above Reverse Tethering is possible, but depends on Handset I guess. Check XDA for Apps.
