BIOS Problem??

kite08

Right off the assembly line
My system configuration is as follows:
200 GB(160+40) HDD, 1 GB RAM, Intel P4, Windows XP SP2..

The problem is that few days back my BIOS screen suddenly showed up at startup date, time, boot priorities everything all reset. I corrected the time and date and set my boot priorities back to their desired settings:
1. 40 GB HDD where my OS is installed
2.DVD RAM combo drive.
3.Floppy
But when i booted up the system after sometime it again showed me the bios screen with the time and date intact but the list of boot priorities reverted to its earlier configuration::-?
1.floppy drive
2.160GB HDD
3.CD RW Drive.
No matter how many times i try to reset it to my own desired settings and save them it still keeps getting reset and i have to change the priorities almost every time.:C_insane:
One more thing if it helps explain things, my devices have the following configurations:
1.160GB HDD -Primary IDE Master
2.40GB HDD -Primary IDE Slave
3.CD-RW Drive- Secondary IDE Master
4.DVD-RAM Combo Drive- Secondary IDE Slave.
My question is is there a problem with my BIOS? If so so what do i do?...

The CMOS battery needs to be changed. Do the following.

1. Remove the PSU cord from the back of the system.
2. Press the computer power button on/off couple of times.
3. Open the cabinet and remove the CMOS button cell, with a thin pin. Note the polarity.
4. Note the model imprint on the battery/or take it to a local watch maker. And get a replacement.
5. Plug the new battery in.

Re-boot,you will get a checksum error, go into the BIOS set the time/date/boot priority. Commit the changes, you should be fine.
