Android TV and portable DVD writer as CD viewer?

I have many kids VCDs and few movie DVDs. Can I buy a portable DVD writer and use it as the traditional cd player for the Android TV?

Why?
No need.
Simply grab all video/audio data from those CD DVD.
Use mkvtoolnix software for converting it to mkv files. Very fast and easy without loss of quality.
Copy to pen drive or portable disk.
Play and enjoy.

Or there are 3.5" HDD enclosures which support CD/DVD player.

You cannot use a DVD writer in the Android TV. It can only be used with Window/Linux or Mac

Some of them seem to have weird DRM in them. I tried imaging the whole disc but it did not succeed. They play well while using though.

There are reports of them being used with Android TVs. Not sure how exactly.
