1. Budget? Upto 30k (bit up and down not a problem but phone be VFM)
2. Display type and size? Touchscreen, Not more than 4.3", Smaller is better (Screen size is non negotiable)
3. Form Factor? bar, slider, flip? Bar
4. Preferred choice of brand? None as Such, Avoid Micromax
5. Preferred input method (QWERTY, touchscreen, numpad, touch-n-type). Touchscreen
6. What camera option you want? Please specify need for flash, autofocus, front facing camera. Decent Camera, No Fancy Stuff
7. Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc). Android Only
8. Preferred connectivity options (3G, Wifi etc)Please specify clearly. 3g, Wifi
9. Preferred applications (Flash, Swype, GPS, etc)? Whatever comes along
10. Primary use of handset (multimedia, camera, mails, internet, gaming etc)? Mails, Internet, Mild Gaming
11. Any specific mobile phones in consideration? None
12. Any other info that you want to share
Need this for friend's dad. Budget is really not a concern. Aptly described as anything good, not extraordinary necessarily and smaller is better.

Get Xperia L or wait for Motorola Moto G.
Atleast give approximate budget!!! like 30-50k or 10-30k (or else peoples will start suggesting Vertu phones :p )

sony xperia ZR?

BUT the best would be Nexus 5
4.95", 1080p, 445ppi, smooth stock vannila android 4.4(everyone loves this)
all other phones are far away from nexus 5 at 29k & 33k for 16GB &32GB models.
So if you are OK with screen then get nexus 5 trust me you wont regret :)

Go for Nexus 4 if you can handle slightly larger screen than 4.3 inches. Its available on 23000 in Amazon India.

Looks like you guys didn't read his post clearly. He wrote 4.3" max. Moto G has a 4.5" screen

My recommendation would be Galaxy S4 Mini.

4.3 max -> go for Xperia L

but IMHO, 0.2 inches more won't make a hole in the pocket. You can wait for Moto G too.

S4 mini would be great for you. Just check out Xperia ZR though, you might be able to adjust with it......
Sony Xperia ZR vs. Samsung I9190 Galaxy S4 mini - GSMArena.com

I too feel that 4.3 - 4.5" is adequate for smartphones but manufacturers went upto 5.2"(G2 has very less bezel)
I'm now using a 4.7" phone. Xperia Z1S has perfect specs for people like us but the on screen keys will reduce the screen space n Sony already gives good amount of bezel (compare size of Z1 n G2)

Guys if you read this post I have asked suggestion for my friends' dad. He is reluctant to buy a phone even of 4.3" higher size is even more difficult to convince. I personally don't have any problem with bigger size infact I use HTC One which is 4.7"

If it is for your friends dad why not look into blackberry z10. 4.2 inch a bit more perfect for your requirements.
Or else why not move towards Windows coz Android is kinda more prone to big size phones.
