check the contract. usually unlimited download means low speed if you download too much.

i set up my old pc to use on the internet. it is very slow but still want some protection programs on it. after installing and uninstalling i kept only two programs avira freeware and peer guardian that runs decently. Are they enough to not get a virus or spyware?

make sure the pc starts from cd. doesn't it ask you to press a key to start from cd? i'm not very familiar but this happens to me if i forget the xp cd inside.

i did this some time ago by checking a box in the soundcard program, something for karaoke.

it's not spyware, sounds like a hardware problem see the cpu temperature with speedfan, maybe it is overheating.

how much ram do you have? you may try to clean the system with ccleaner

i don't think it has something to do with dual core. i had same problem on amd. i solved it with a system reinstall and a lot of headache.

just give a try to the new bit torrent 6 it is faster now than ever. If the speed is still a problem you can optimize it with something like bittorent acceleration software but it seems to be very optimized so most likely no need of additional tweaks. however, keep an eye on what you download

I also had the same problem when downloading some files with LimeWire . Ewido signaled the problem but i was not able to remove it so i had to format my harddisk. Lost everything i had on that computer...
