Give a try by Reinstall the XP or install Windows 7 as secondary OS and check... AFAIK The problem should be with OS.. XP catches virus and malwares so fast... I have faced same kind of issue so many times. As it was my personal PC i reinstalled the OS and everything was working fine :)
