I have a ASUS K8N-VM Mobo with Athlon 2800+ 64bit processor...

<!--- This was solved ---!>
And the problem is that my Windows XP doesn't detect my sound card...

When I try to install the audio drivers that came with the board, I get the error that the drivers are not for the soundcard on the board...

What could be the problem ??

Some things that might help

* I haven't installed SP2 yet
* The PC is newm , so this problem arised right from the beginning
* Do I need to install Windows XP 64 bit edition for it ?
* Linux couldn't recognize the sound card aswell
* I have checked my BIOS and the onboard sound card is enabled
* I tried disabling it once and install the drivers to see what error it gives, and it said the same thing, Audio drivers not for the hardware in mobo

<!--- This was solved ---!>

I have another small problem too

I have a Seagate SATA HDD of 80GB... Now in my windows it always shows a small "Remove the Hardware Safely" icon... So why is my windows consdering this SATA HDD as a removeable drive ?
Is this normal ?

* But in My Computer, the icon of the HDD stays normal, like it's a normal HDD... but the taskbar is showing it as removable...

Again I haven't installed SP2 yet....

These problems are getting very annoying... So please help me out here...

try to install the audio drivers after upgrading the OS to SP2...
upgrade xp to SP2 and then try to install the audio drivers...
it wud be better if u download them frm the web site directly..
try this >>
*support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

as far as safely remove icon goes thats for sure not for SATA HDD,
but to check click on safely remove hardware and on the window it will show the connected hardware device...most probably it will be a printer USB cable,infrared/bluetooth dongle, camera etc....

Well isn't it wierd that EVERYTIME I have posted some problem of mine on the Digit problems, I somehow solved them myself !

Well I installed SP2 and updated my BIOS and then tried installing the latest drivers but it didn't help. So I started thinking as to what the problem can be ? Coz bios showed that sound card was okay... So I spotted one thing on the mobo , that the sound cable of the front side of my cabinet was connected to the mobo... so I removed it... and now my XP detects sound card perfectly ! I never needed those front panel sockets anyway <<< sigh >>>

But the HDD problem still persists... And it shows my SATA HDD as the removable drive... Still haven't got through that... So editing the topic title...

thats cool nikhil.....problem solved!!!

for the second one look at these...

*tinyurl.com/8kuve
*www.gpforums.co.nz/thread/308232/?s=
*tinyurl.com/a8vpt
*tinyurl.com/75rn9

each stating that SATA is considered hot swappable so thats why the icon,nd the only turnaround mentioned is hiding it !!
