Hi... I am planing to buy a laptop. I can either purchase from India or from US (as my friend is coming back in December, he can bring it for me). These are my requirements;

1) What is your budget? 50,000 INR

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
  • Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
(I don't like laptop smaller than 15.6")

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?

Lots of writing
Extensive web browsing (14-15 tabs opened simeltaneously)
Youtube, Neflix, Amazon Prime
Watching Movies
Normal image editing on Photoshop
Very light video editing in Premiere Pro

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?

No.

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

a. Like: No
b. Dislike: No

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Screen resolution (1080p (Full HD) )
  • Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs))
  • Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, amazon, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (USA) )
  • The lighter is better.
  • The look is important as I use my laptop for presentations to client.
  • Windows laptops only.
  • Must have number pad in the keyboard.

If warranty matters then this is your best shot.

Great suggestion. Indeed a great laptop. But out of my budget. It comes to 63,000 by adding all the necessary components :(

Lenovo IdeaPad S145 (15 inch AMD) | Best Budget Laptop | Lenovo India

The R5 3500U model at 38k is a good choice. Even Asus has R5 2500/3500U powered laptops. Utilize the sales.

You can get good Dell laptops from US, transfer its warranty to India. You should be able to get Dell Inspiron 7000 15" with i5 for under $700 on sales in their website. Inspiron 7000 is built better & likely has better display than ones found in India at price like Lenovo options or even Asus Vivobook 15.

They give discount coupons after you logged in and add those coupons. Check once you will know.

I think this is the best option for you but if you get it from abroad it will come cheaper but will loose warranty.

If there is a way to obtain international warranty by paying for it then it's very good.

Ask your friend to check there once.

OP is saying lighter the better for giving presentations and such. So ideapads are compact and much better.

But RAM is soldered where we cannot change it.

But the laptop I specified is and can be customised after asking Lenovo India here itself.

OP needs to check once.

Thank you for the suggestion, Anupam. I am little sceptical about AMD processors. But still, I will check.

Check once and post it here.
It will help others.

Definitely.

One quick question.
Does "Processor Count" matters? Because the lenovo laptop has 1 processor count while other laptop (MSI) has 6 processor count in the same budget and same configuration.

Processor will be one where as threads will be many
Some manufacturers advertise like this while others don't

But check which processor it is in intel website
You will know

See the comparison:Processor Comparison - Head 2 Head
In fact what I suggested is the newer gen Intel processor. But same count all along but higher base clock and boost clock.

Do not buy MSI laptop(or any of their product except may be their tomahawk or carbon pro ac mobos for ryzen 2xxx processors) as their after sales support is poor in India for now.

Why? R5 3500U & R7 3700U competes with i5 82xxU & i7 85xxU respectively CPU wise, but has better iGPU, similar to MX130 & bit inferior to MX150 respectively. Its sufficient for light video editing, obviously H series CPUs are more powerful. L340 is a bad choice as its thermal system isn't good & has just 1 RAM stick, Asus FX505 would be better but has red backlit KB, so not professional looking. Better get Y540 with i5+1650+8GB RAM+512GB SSD for 60k from amazon, another 2-3k reduction with card discounts. I don't think L340 is worth its price.

For US, Asus ROG G531 with i7+1650 has been on sale for as low as $800, i think at BestBuy, you just need to catch it on sale. I have even seen Lenovo Thinkpad 14" with R5 3500U for $750. Dell Inspiron 7000 is easier to find on sale. Non-gaming laptops will have a good battery life, expect 5-6 hrs.

I think S145 has maybe 1 RAM slot like L340. Customizing from the manufacturer is usually too expensive. Not sure about the costs in India by Lenovo (poor internet). Y540 was on sale for 60k, I don't think Lenovo India is selling L340 for under 50k, so Y540 is a much better choice, L340 is seriously too inferior to it (in terms of build, thermal management, upgradability).

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy with a project. Thank you for all the suggestions, Anupam.

I don't care about 1 RAM stick but didn't know about bad thermal system.

Asus FX505 would be better but has red backlit KB, so not professional looking.

I am in entertainment business. So that doesn't matter. I liked this model though.

Y540 is too expensive.

So there are three options for me, now.

Lenovo L340 (India) - 62,000 (with discount)

LenovoL340 (US) - 49,000 (with discount)

ASUS TUF FX505 (India) - 42,990 (with discount)

Go with asus & buy 2 years extended warranty(total 1+2=3 years, but 2 years extended warranty does not include ADP(accidental damage protection) so physical damages won't be covered) for just Rs.99 from asuspromo.in
