Robert Lange has announced the release of VectorLinux 5.9 SOHO edition: "We have released VectorLinux 5.9 SOHO. It has been a year since our last SOHO release and from all reports this is our best yet. Starting from the ground up with our 5.9 standard release, we have taken VectorLinux to a new high. This is absolutely the fastest KDE 3.5.9 desktop you will find anywhere with a optional Fluxbox desktop for power users. The eye candy is amazing, with four special themes to select from at installation time. We have fixed most of the oddities and bugs found in the standard release and have made many improvements to our in-house utilities. Everything is updated and patched so no need to worry about homeland security. The amount of software available on this 2-disc set will simply amaze. See the release announcement and product page for further information. VectorLinux 5.9 SOHO is not available for free download, but the official CD set can be purchased from the project's online store for US$24.99.
Funnily, this time its not for free download. Its been cleverly created, with exactly the required software on its 2 CDs, and reviews speak wonders of it. Its a paid 25$ distro, but I guess its worth the stability, functionality and out of box support for everything a SOHO establishment needs which it provides.

Don't be dejected that its paid, because even VL Standard can be converted to VL SOHO if you have an hour's worth of patience.

I call this clever, because they charge those who want everything soon and who are trying to make money, but they give for free to those with weak systems, or those who have the time and brains to make it from its base.

It looks sexy and its software suite is AWSSOME.

adding a price tag will surely attract winblow$ users you know!they dont believe that good things comes FREE!! as win users are probably tied in between trialware timebombs and so called shareware/freeware things :|

Proprietary Software system....no good!:?

actually, they added price for a reason as I told before.
They give setup support with it.
This enables non tech people to setup high quality SOHO system easily.

The tech guys can always do a sudo slapt-get install kde openoffice etc-etc if they want SOHO version.

Its all in the package dude.

what I meant is if GNU/Linux distros are offered with a $299/- only tag ,these windows addicted |users will jump inn probably!NOT specifically about vector soho.

I think those who use Linux(and GNU) simply because of it being superior and stable ,they should understand the underlying Philosophy "Free Open Source Software Movement" FOSS -how beautiful it is! without DRMs and other crapwares !
