Urgent - Laptop under 1000 USD

Hello guys,

Planning to ask my frnd to get a good multimedia laptop from U.S..
Please suggest me some good models below 1000 USD.

some of my requirements are

1. Core 2 duo Processor, 250 Gb HDD, 2 GB Ram, 15.4 inches wide screen.
2. Preferablly with hdmi ports and a good graphics card.
3. and ofcourse should look cool

Keeping the above things in mind, I was leaning towards HP.
How are HP Laptops? Can anyone suggest some good models ?

Plz also feel free to suggest good models from other brands as well..

Go for Compaq or Acer models as they are better value for money. HP charges for its premium segment image. And Compaq is a lesser priced model chain from HP. And if looks are foremost for you and you can extend your budget for looks go for Sony.
